If nothing was learned, except that violence won the war that compromise, compassion, and agreement weren’t even attempted but thrown to the side to free the helpless victims of the monster that we named, but they never saw, then we are nothing more than repeat offenders . Their families and cities were ripped apart for a political ideal that they’ll surely thank us for one day. Bodies were tossed in the same piles of rubble that used to be their cities. They can finally start anew, without the fear and oppression they never even knew was holding them back. How can a society rebuild when there is no one left to lift a shovel? “We’ve killed the monster who held you back”, we shouted, but no one was there to listen. There was no one there to thank us for a “freedom” that was never asked for. A freedom that will never be experienced. It reads the same throughout the texts and tales of history passed down through generations. We, the thankless heroes, who yet again save the downtrodden people from a filthy and violent environment only to once again be labeled a bully.
