Watch Mystery, Semi-Solved in These Foolish Things

Go back one entry to get the backstory.

I’d asked Maria why she wanted a photo of my watch, knowing full well that it had to do with the jeweler who’d committed suicide last week. She answered back saying she wanted to compare it to her fake watch she’d gotten in China.

“I don’t believe you” I texted back. And added, “What’s up?”

Later, she sent me back a photo of her fake watch, pointing out the differences between hers and mine …again, I knew it was a cover-up for the real story, so I finally sent another text back saying, “Just wondering if there was an issue with ‘the situation’ under which I got my watch?”

And she immediately wrote back, saying NO, absolutely not. But then she followed with something about how Jerry the Jeweler had sold his wife’s watch a few months ago, but that this one definitely wasn’t it. She was worried that it might be and that’s why she asked for the photo, but she finished the text saying she was relieved and not to worry about Jerry - that he was well respected in his business.

I don’t know if that’s the last I’ll hear about the watch, but at least as far as having the wife’s watch or knowing that there’s something wrong with it, I’m somewhat off the hook. Today.

So, today I wear my pretty timepiece with pride, yet try to have a bit of a zen attitude about the whole thing. I’ve never had “valuables”, really, until I was given that piece of fine jewelry engagement ring…and you see what happened with that symbolism. If it all goes away, then it wasn’t meant to be in the first place. Right?

And today is Friday. Hooray, I guess. My day is packed full of two-hour meetings, plus a bitchfest that Negative C. scheduled with me to tell me all of the things that are wrong with a several programs we’re working on with a big retailer. Again, hooray.

If there’s one silver lining, at least I feel calm today.

I’m starting another several weeks of special dieting and exercise tomorrow, April 1st. And that’s no joke! I let myself have a week of relaxation and not watching what I consumed (though still within reason). But tomorrow starts a fresh new month!

Okay, duty calls! Happy Friday!
