Bored At Work in General Stuff

Last week I got put as a lower priority for the queue that gets the most calls for some reason. There really was a reason, I just don’t remember what it was. And none of the supervisors have put me back to the proper priority, so I’m getting way fewer calls on that particular line. I haven’t bothered to point this out to anyone, but I think I might do so tomorrow, because I’ve been available for an hour and ten minutes now and I am bored out of my ever loving mind. The other two reps still here at this hour are way across the room so we can’t even shoot the shit or anything. Is it 9pm yet??

I was thinking it would be cool if I could get into audio books. I do have an account with BARD (Braille and Audio Reading Download) run by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. It would be free for me to download tons of audio books and they even have an app, so I could listen on the go on my phone. But, meh. I’ve never really been into audio books even when I was younger. I like to read on my own and make up my own voices for the characters. And with the wonderful invention of ereaders I can make the print nice and large and hold the thing at a reasonable distance and read instead of having a damn book right up to my nose. I always refused to use large print books in school, but it was for practicality’s sake damn it!! My seventh grade history text book was 25 freaking volumes in large print!!

Ahem, so yeah, audio books. Not just lame stuff either. They have all the current authors and stuff, it just takes about six months for a new release to make it on to their service. Sometimes the books are read by their professionals and sometimes they get a licence or whatever from the mass market publishers and we get the retail versions.

I dunno. I think my aversion to audio books is caused by the same mechanism that prevents me from even entertaining the possibility of me learning to use JAWS or Window Eyes. Those are screen reading programs that let blind people use PC’s. People always think that blind people would talk to the computer, but what good would that do?? They need the computer to talk to them, they can’t see what the hell is on the screen. Everything is done with different keyboard commands and stuff because using a mouse isn’t realistic. Right, so the reason I can’t/won’t do these things is that it feels like resigning myself to the fact that I will probably loose most of my vision as my life goes on. Right now I am considered legally blind, but I have pretty usable vision. I don’t need a cane to walk around, I can see 12pt font, all be it right up to my nose....

But I got a tentative diagnosis of Glaucoma last year and I’ve ignored the whole thing. Denial mixed with fear I guess.

And on that note, its 8:57pm. Time to start logging out of everything and get the hell out of here. Until tomorrow....uggg. Tomorrow is only Friday, that means its my Wednesday.
