Winter Wondeland! :o) in A New Beginning

Delaware is a sissy kind of place in the wintertime. Our weather station calls for a “Severe Weather Alert!” when all we’re supposed to get is one to two inches of snow! But we did, at least, have a couple inches when I got up yesterday morning, and that usually gets us a day off if it’s still coming down (which it was) or at least a two-hour delay. But to my chagrin, when I checked the list of closings on our weather website, most of the districts were listed, BUT NOT MINE! They all had two hour delays and we had nuthin’. Especially since I had just had an absolutely HORRIBLE night, which is unusual for me, I was quite put-out. But I left for work about ten minutes earlier than usual, and once I got to the highway the roads were clear for the rest of my way to work. Then I actually felt happy to be going to work, the drive was so beautiful! :o) Every tree was etched in snow, the ground was white, and big lacy flakes were coming down fast; it was a delightful winter wonderland!
It was a warmish day, in the high thirties, so once the snow stopped, most of it melted and by now there’s hardly any. BUT!!!!! a few of the gals I work with said they heard that we’re likely to get “major snow” this coming Monday....eight to ten inches! That really will be fairly major! We have Monday off anyway, for parent/teacher conferences. But if we get that much, schools would be closed the following day too, probably! And next Tuesday is my birthday, so that would be nice!
My horrible night the other night was just really bad. I woke up after a couple hours and just couldn’t get comfortable. My hip and leg hurt soooo bad, and taking three tylenol did not help. Our mattress is getting old, and I felt a spring right underneath my ribs! I came out here and tried to sleep on the couch, but that wasn’t happening either. And while, if I am a bit sore, the soreness usually goes away once I go to work and get busy, yesterday it didn’t. :o( Finally I gave in and took two more tylenol AND THAT HELPED! Oh, that was such a relief!! So the rest of my workday was fine. And yesterday afternoon, Joe turned our mattress. For now, that worked, and last night I slept comfy and well. We need to buy a new mattress once Joe figures our taxes and provided we don’t owe much. But I think this weekend we will buy a good-quality mattress pad to do for in the meantime.
One thing I have learned how to do, living with chronic pain, is to just damn well feel alright so long as there’s only mild soreness. And I suppose over time one becomes able to increase one’s threshold, and that is just how one manages! But I enjoy so very much, the times when I truly AM 100% comfortable! Oh, man-o-man, I just revel in it! :o)
Today was a bit of a day from hell at work, but I am so tickled to say, it was MY LAST DAY ON A SERVING LINE FOR AT LEAST A MONTH!!!!! I’m on cash register for all of February! Whooooopie!! I don’t really mind the work of serving the kids, but after doing it for two whole months, I need a break! Serving is hard work, as fast a pace and in such numbers we we have to do it! And cleaning the serving line at the end of the day sure isn’t any picnic either!!
I don’t have to cook tonight, because I had the presense of mind to get bean soup cooking in the crockpot this morning! All I have to do is make some corn muffins to go with it. My sister Carol was talking about making cornbread the other day and that sure got me hungering for some!
