11.15 Ultra Peaceful Protest in These Foolish Things

Tonight, Athena and I had planned to go to a rally downtown close to my place. It was a local Pantsuit Nation group that has formed since the election (one week ago today, what a strange feeling). It was to be held in a park downtown and Athena was going to walk down to my place and we were going to walk to the march together.

But Athena couldn’t go, so I wasn’t as jazzed up about going alone - especially since the protests around here can get scary and even violent.

I’d also driven by the park on my way home from work. There was already a N. Dakota/Standing Rock protest going on, and I looked around for the Pantsuit Nation folks but couldn’t see them from the car at my level.

I checked FB and noted when I got to my apartment and parked that someone had written on the Facebook page where exactly they were in the park area, noting also the Standing Rock protest and how they didn’t want to interfere with that.

Got home, ate a quick dinner and got the dog ready for her walk. Decided to walk in the direction of the protests just to see what was going on. I couldn’t hear anything from my place, so I figured it couldn’t be too out of hand.

Ha. That’s an understatement.

By the time I got there, there were maybe 20 people standing in the corner of the park. Yes, I know I may have gotten there late (it was 7:30 and the “protest” had started at 6:00), but I walked up to some strangers asking if they were Pantsuit Nation people, and they were all yeah, but didn’t seem to care about having someone join in their conversation.

So after about 5 minutes of hanging around a bit, I decided to continue on my walk with the dog.

Even the Standing Rock protest (which was maybe 100 people larger/stronger) had seemed to disperse, so I figured it was a good time to walk back to my apartment.

The dog never went to the bathroom, to my dismay. We walked for an hour and a half, and produced no poop. I actually got angry with her because I’m worried that she’ll wake in the middle of the night and go on the floor…but what can I do? I walked her everywhere and got nothing in return.

Anyway, protesting was definitely peaceful, but a bust for me.

Oh, some guy called me a “schoolteacher” on the way home, so that was interesting. Perhaps the glasses did it for him?

Oh, and Bumble update: I’ve now called the guy. We are playing phone tag. This is why it’s easier to text. Nothing’s ever easy when it comes to dating.

…or protesting, I guess.
