Today was a pretty good day, even though I was really tired this morning. So first of all, in Latin, instead of having to listen to the teacher talk, we went to the library to "work on" the project that we are supposedly doing. I'm working with Molly, Dave, Kevin, Paul (the music in the community kid), and his sidekick Dominic. Paul and Dominic are kind of hard to work with and certainly very wierd, but they are also very amusing. So we sat around and laughed at each other and argued about politics and the cinematography we're planning on using in our movie and not actually talking about our topic. So that made my day significantly better, even though I'm not actually looking foreward to doing the project.

Second of all, I got my trumpet today. Not only that, I had a lesson this afternoon, and (when I'm lucky - it's kind of hit or miss on some of the high notes) I already have an impressive one octave range! And I can play low rider. Boo yah. I also got to hang out in the band room a lot and jam on the piano with Jay, which was cool.

Eric was very upset when I told him I was taking up the trumpet. "Hey, Eric," I said this morning, "Guess who's taking up the trumpet?" "It sure as hell better not be you." "Yup." "Ok, what is with everyone taking up the trumpet!? First SARAH, then JULIAN, now YOU?? Is nothing SACRED anymore?" "So," said Dave, "Are you going to play trumpet in marching band now?" "No!" said Eric. "That is absolutely where I draw the line! I will not take flute players into my section." "It's not 'your section' Eric. Not even close." "Actually, it is. We decided that next year I'm going to be section leader. Yeah, that's right. What's up now?"

Anyway, after that I came home and practiced the trumpet a lot and bought some ska and attempted to draw inspiration from it (a.k.a, copy it.) We really need something original - something besides Julian's mellow jazz. (Which I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world if we played. At least it'll be something different.) Anyway, I did come up with something, but it has no lyrics. I hate lyrics.

Anyway, overall I am in a decidedly good mood. I'm wicked excited about my trumpet. And tomorrow night is vacation. Yay!!
