State Fair, Day One! in Ponderings of the Universe

Next year I’ll be more proactive about asking for days off during the fair. I succeeded in getting the first day off, which is actually my usual day off, and mostly failed at getting other days off. I much prefer going to the fair on weekdays to avoid some of the crowds if possible. Still, I’ve managed to go 3 days thus far and plan to go 3-4 more. Prepare yourselves for lots of bad pictures of food!

First Day!

Welcome to the land of ridiculousness and fried food!

Breakfast! From the French Meadow Bakery booth. Shared with Aaron. Croissant breakfast sandwich, doughsant (essentially a cronut), my cucumber lemonade and Aaron’s vanilla latte. French Meadow Bakery never disappoints.

Aaron with lemonade.

Alpacas! (Which I didn’t eat)

alt text

Very friendly sheep! (Which I also didn’t eat)

Om nom nom cider freeze.

Kimchi curry poutine. Quite tasty.

More lemonade!

Spam sushi. WTF is about all I can say.

alt text

Continuing with the Spam theme, we have Spam curds which was cheese-flavored Spam cubed and deep fried. Amusing but also WTF.

alt text

Deep fried cheese on a stick. Mmmm…gooey cheese.

Deep fried cookie dough on a stick. Surprisingly disappointing.

We did things other than eat weird food, I promise. In there was wandering through the various animal barns, visiting the Miracle of Birth center, exploring the Bazaar, the parade, part of a horse show, petting dogs, lots and lots of people watching…

I’m done for the night. More to come in the near future (hopefully!)

I'm trying to get to the state fair here this year. There are...complications. But maybe I can go with RedK.
