This has to be the fastest date I have ever gotten. I was playing around on Tinder last night, while drinking a glass of champange (it had been a terrible, terrible day filled with stress, tears, and even death - yes, more details to follow) and stumbled across this dude who was working late at his office downtown and just finishing up. His office is next to the park where I walk the dog, and he asked if I wanted to get a drink, so I told him yes and to meet me in the park.
Here’s what happened.
Name: Arch, the Architect
Age: 44
Status: Vague. Divorced, but not sure how long ago. He glossed over his relationship status so quickly it seemed like he was still grieving or processing or something. Two daughters, ages 9 and 13, I think.
Job: Architect. Is working on a project in Chicago, so commuting every other week.
Lives: In the Old East part of town. Nice area - beautiful old homes – family-friendly.
Length of Date: 1 hour
He Looked: Black. Black shirt, black denim, black shoes. Graying blackish hair. Probably my height (5’8” or 5’9”…maaaaybe 5’ 10”?)
I Looked: Black. I threw on a black tank dress and black flip flops right before I left the house with the dog.
We Did: Met at the park and went to sit on the patio at the restaurant (my usual spot – they know me there!)
Convo: Little awkward, maybe because of the quick circumstances and the fact that I’d had a really weird day. I really wasn’t into it, but decided to play nice and listen. Turns out, he’s a really nerdy, smart man who’s into midcentury modern architecture and décor (points) and dogs (points) – though his ex has full custody of their dog now (bummer). He told me he thought I was cool. That was nice.
First Impression: Eh. Not really into him, but then I was also distracted by the day’s events. I probably shouldn’t have met him out, but then again, why not?
High Point: Honestly, no high point. Though he did walk me home (bonus point).
Low Point: Wasn’t as attractive as his Tinder profile photos.
How It Ended: He walked me home – that was very nice. He tried to kiss me at the steps to the door, and I let him give me a peck but nothing more.
Chances Are: Pretty sure he will ask me out again. Not sure if I give it another go. Not really attracted, but I think he’s SUPER nice. What should I do if he does?
