So I’m watching last nights Preacher on xfinity dot com and something is fucked up, it plays every commercial at the commercial break. There were, among ads for products and shit, four commercials in a row for websites.
One is Itsonus.org. This one is saying non-consensual sex is rape and you should go to the website. I assume, given the name, it means it is on us not to rape. What the hell? Is that how internet dependent we’ve become, that without a website we have no sense of morality? That’s how pissed I am, Speechless pissed, that last sentence was nonsense but as much as the commercial and the sentence didn’t cost a dime. Yes, people, to stop rape all we need is a website and education to know, individually and collectively, what consent is.
Understood.org. This one, as best as I can tell, is about kids with learning disabilities. The parent asks their phone (hard to tell from voice whether it’s siri or some android) how to understand their kid and the phone fucks with them, kind like verbal auto correct fucking, and then tells them that’s how their kid hears shit and to go to this website. Ya gotta wonder how old the kid is, I mean how many years did it take before the parent decided to ask Siri or Android. What the fuck. It’s a bit like looking up WebMD when you’ve just been gut shot at close range.
Liveunited.org I actually have no idea what this is but in the ad people state their differences with the person next to them and after a few of those the voice over says something about getting involved and signing up and, you know, live united.
And one I didn’t even catch the name of. This one has these teenagers at a diner. There’s a stupid almost racist Mario looking statue of a chef hold up food. The one kid says “that’s so gay” the other kids laugh. Wanda Sykes comes out of the booth behind them, tells them not to say that shit, and diss’s the kid with a typical Wanda Sykes kind of joke. There’s no website, or none that I caught, but the message is don’t say gay when you mean stupid. In fact the way it’s worded makes it sound like you should call something gay if you mean it’s homosexual. Somehow I don’t think that’s the intent, but, honestly, I don’t know what the intent is. I also think, just in my own listening range, that stupid trend (imagine, teenagers and trends, who’d a thunk it?) is at least three years past. I could be mistaken, but Wanda Sykes going all Wanda Sykes on some actor in a commercial probably won’t have much effect on how gay something that’s gay is.
Oh, shit, and stopbullying.gov. Oh, yeah. Mean girls bullying this other girl and a fourth girl seeing it in a vanity mirror on her locker with a look of concern and sadness. I guess if you go to the website it’ll tell you not to be the fourth girl. Want my advice? Don’t be any of them.
I know I’m missing some others too. It’s more than just PSA’s. These are commercial grade commercials and national and at least one of them is funded by tax dollars. I’m bewildered and I don’t wilder easy.
I’ve got more personal things I could talk about but they’re only interesting to me. Shit, maybe this entry is only interesting to me, which is sad, because I’m not all that interested, just the B-side of wildered. And I need to put stuff up here now and again or I’ll forget what the fucking keyboard is for.
