As of right now, Muse Central is being ran by two Proseboxers: Teflon Superhero and iivari-matias.

Muse Central was originally going to be “Writing Prompts” to help people get into writing, or back into writing if they’ve hit a small impasse and need to focus on something else for a little bit.

The more we considered how the Prosebox would be set up, the more I (Teflon Superhero) wanted to break the prompts into separate books.

There was discussion of “How often are posting prompts too much?” and “What if someone wants to participate in all of the prompts but you post too many and overwhelm them?”

I wanted to post a prompt daily, but it was argued that it would be too overwhelming for a person wanting to take on all the prompts. I believe though, that until there are a handful of prompts or someone new comes into it, it’s unfair to make someone wait 3 days to a week for a new prompt if they don’t like the selection. It might put them off and they never return back to check.

So our compromise came about as follows:

There will be multiple books, which will each have a prompt posted in them fairly regularly. We quickly moved beyond it simply being ‘writing prompts’ and decided to include all artistic walks of life. So there will be an Art prompt book to help people get inspired for a drawing. There will be one for song writers (we hope, this seems to be the hardest for us to figure out how to get started). There will be one for poetry writers, and one for writers.

We’ve also tinkered with the idea of a separate book simply for Established Universe writing prompts (So you writers who have itched for a Game of Thrones/Xena cross over fanfic prompt could wet yourselves with glee!)

It’ll be clunky for a bit while we set up the books and sort things out, but we hope once we get everything going we can spread the name around, gather the creative, and get the juices flowing!

Also, if you’re not a writer/artist/musician, YOU ARE WELCOME HERE TOO!

Our crafts would mean nothing without people who find joy in enjoying what we do, so please make sure to find some artists and writers you like and encourage them and enjoy.

There is no ‘entrance level’ to this prompt based prosebox.

iivari-matias is a fanstastic writer that blows my mind with how he writes and it’s intimidating a little bit. I’m just a basic writer who has a very narrow grasp of grammar structure, a heavy crutch on dialogue, and endless re-writes.

But that doesn’t make what either of us do any better or worse from each other’s work. We both enjoy what we do and want to encourage others to start writing or to get back into drawing or writing poetry.

Even if your skill level is straight up “Xena: The Fanfic” levels, I want you to participate!

Why? Because, practice makes perfect! I want you to keep writing/drawing even if it’s horrible. Because eventually you will get better and you may look back on something you have written long ago and go “That is atrocious. But you know what? I had a really good idea going there, I think I’ll re-do it now.”

So, Welcome to Muse Central! We hope you find something here that piques your interest and inspires you!
