As I Sat Shelving.... in Postcards 4

…I opened one of the many new books of poetry that were just donated. One word on a page caught my mind and opened up as if it were an umbrella. I could almost feel it unfolding around me, and I could feel new poems pushing to come out.

When I started writing this morning, I thought of the one word as wrote of closings instead of unfoldings. It shocked me.

  • Himself: Happy doing his own stuff today.
  • Herself: Writing words about real things. A meeting with a friend at three….and I would dearly love to go to the Book Signing at Warwicks in La Jolla tonight but won’t. Darn it. Dinner out.
  • Reading: Something new that I have my doubts about.
  • Gratitudes: To be here and feel pretty clear today: it brings a smile to my face.

Incredible photo....a really great perspective. Our trees don't look like that.

Your two paragraphs could be broken into lines to form a poem. What you wrote is very powerful. What was the word? And why was it different yesterday than it is today? Because today you are looking at a blank page?

What's happening with the fire up there?
I don't remember the word just the rush of emotion when I saw it.

Here's a link to the latest CBC news story. About 4000 people who fled north are making their way south through Fort McMurray and they hope to get another 4000 out by the end of the day.

Thank you so much for the link. How incredibly tragic. We had a similar fire a few years ago. Heartbreaking.

What was the word that had such a powerful effect on you? I suspect openings and closings are part of life's flow, we need both.

Your trees in a different light :-)

Yes, they are. Colorful too. BTW, you might ask first if you are going to play with an artist's work.

I love it when that happens. What was the book?
