I Am Lucky in These Foolish Things

Last night was Redhead Night at the basketball game. Cindy,my fellow ginger and I both Uber’d separately to our meeting spot: the lobby bar at the W Hotel where we would meet and then go to will call to get our free tickets.

We both showed up a little late and quite frankly, weren’t hugely into going to the game - or at the very least, we weren’t in a hurry to get there, so we had a cocktail and caught up for a pretty good, long time.

As we were talking, we noticed some interesting people at the bar, and we talked about the fun we used to have when we’d travel together, always meeting fascinating characters in the hotel lobby bars wherever we’d go.

She turned to me and said, “You’ve always been so lucky when it comes to things like that - you meet such cool people and have such amazing adventures!”

And actually, I think she’s right!

We left the W and headed to will call, kind of excited about doing something different and fun, but most of all enjoying each other and laughing. We made our way through the outskirts of the giant arena and found our seats, which were great seats, but we were still restless and decided to walk around some more.

We went to the bar that’s part of the arena, but also just a separate bar space and got another drink and walked around a little bit more. I didn’t realize that it was a multi-level venue, so we walked downstairs, which was really cool and kind of felt exclusive for some reason.

At one point, we noticed many cute/handsome guys hanging around, so I just happened to walk us over in that direction. Somehow, some way, it was the absolute perfect move for us for a number of reasons:

  • Lots of joking around with these guys
  • Lots of flirting
  • Lots of complements
  • Even invitations to go to another bar with them (we wanted to see at least part of the game so we turned them down..plus, they were all married)
  • COURTSIDE seats!!

That’s right. These awesomely handsome and successful (and married) men were leaving the game, so they asked if we wanted their seats, which just so happened to be court side!

Score!

We even got to walk around “backstage” in the hallways and bowels of the arena, which was kind of cool and we felt kind of like we were doing something a little sneaky. But it was all just a bit adventure-like. We walked back around through the underbelly and found an usher when we got to the court, and he took us right to our seats. Again, ON THE COURT!

Okay, okay. I know. Enough! But it was so thrilling and we were like giddy little schoolgirls and we aren’t even really into basketball! It was such a good time!

After the game was over, we waited around for my photographer friend (the one who got us the tickets in the first place) and had more photos taken, and then we got to walk back through the backstage area like little sneaks again.

We decided that it was time to go, but somehow ended back up at the W Hotel Lobby Bar where we started and ended up talking with these hilariously funny businessmen who were in town for some kind of airplane safety deal or something. Whatever it was, we had a hilarious time talking with them.

I drank too much bubbly.

I Uber’d home.

I feel like I”m on a roll somehow. I’m very, very lucky.

XO,
GS
