Wow. Where the fuck did that year go?
What did I accomplish in 2015? Hm. A whole lotta nothing. I’m pretty sure it’s because I didn’t make any plans. Making resolutions, or at least some kind of plan is important to me because it keeps me focused (for the most part), it’s measurable, and I can see progress.
It’s for those reasons that I am going to sit right down here and compose a list of plans…goals…resolutions.
Okay. I just read the difference between goals and resolutions. See, the goal is the hope - the resolution is the plan. I clearly need both in order to get this shit done in 2016.
1. Goal: Get. In. Shape. Look, I know I need structure to do this. No, I’m not fat, but yes I’m out of shape and need help with my eating and exercise. I signed up for Weight Watchers today because it will help me get more accountable than even the fitbit and the calorie calculators have. That’s because I’m PAYING for it, and that’s a real motivator for me. I’m already in the ideal weight range, according to WW, so I had to make some adjustments in their system (I’m now 5‘1” tall - ha!). The two bigs things for me are eating healthy and working out regularly.
Resolution = use WW plan (food + fitness)
2. Goal: Operation Next Career. You know the drill here.
Resolution = send 5 resumes per week, unless I see that I need to step that up even more
3. Goal: Give True Love a Chance to Find Me.
It’s like the lyrics of the song I posted yesterday…
True love will find you in the end
You’ll find out just who was your friend
Don’t be sad I know you will
But don’t give up until
True love will find you in the end
This is a promise with a catch
Only if you’re looking can it find you
Cause true love is searching too
But how can it recognize you
Unless you step out into the light?
Don’t be sad I know you will
But don’t give up until
Ture love finds you in the end
Resolution = one date per week, whether I want to or not, but let’s make this fun. Anyone on Bumble? It’s pretty interesting because it requires the female to make the first contact. I thought I would hate it, but if that’s the way to make the app work, then it’s not as uncomfortable for me to do it. In fact, I kind of like it because it’s pushing me to do this. Oh, and two really crazy things about Bumble: (1) SexyPants was the one who told me to get on it, which is another entry altogether, and (2) the guys on there are almost all very HOT!! But regardless of how they are found and made, one date per week.
4. Goal: Cultivate Those Friendships. We all know that girlfriends (or friends, in general) are the ones who stick by us through thick and thin. They are the ones who are gonna be there after the weekly dates and the breakups and the sicknesses and the tragedies. I have been an awful friend for most of this year. And even though Best Bud moved back to my city, we rarely see each other. Yes, it goes both ways, but I feel like I can be more open and inviting. I have spent so much of 2015 down in the dumps about work and dumb boys and worried about the dog and any other excuse not to be a good friend. I gotta get back to a place where I have really good relationships with my friends. Now, I don’t want this to be an overwhelming JOB, you know? Friendships should be easy. But I do know that I need to give myself a push to be a more inviting bud to my peeps.
Resolution = one friendship-y thing a week. Examples, bring Best Bud a Starbucks in addition to the one I get a couple times a week before lunch; invite Lovely Leah to dinner (meaning, make a date and stick to it); make Sunday Brunch a regular thing, etc.
5. Goal: Keep Creative Going through writing, decorating, crafting, creating stuff, whatever. I get ideas going through my head - so many that they sometimes clog my brain and I get nowhere. My goal here is to harness some of these ideas and make them actionable. I think that some of them will start simply with writing them down. I can do that here. I love journaling. I just have trouble with the process sometimes because I’m not as organized as I’d like to be.
Resolution = Start a new ‘Book’ of ideas either here or on Pinterest (that might be the ticket!) and make them actionable.
OK. Five Goals/Resolutions for 2016. I feel better now! And even though I have ZERO plans for tonight (except to write this list), I may actually go meet my neighbors at the bar down the street. It was a last-minute invitation, and I kind of feel like going because I feel really motivated!
Happy New Year, PB Loves! Let’s make it an AMAZING 2016!
