I needed that trip so badly. Today I’m back in the office, but still California Dreaming. Here are ten things about the rest of the trip!
-
Last I wrote about it, I was in Dana Point and getting ready for the boat festivities on Friday night. Got ready, drove to Anna’s and met another friend there and then drove to Newport Beach to launch the boat! Well, Anna’s hubby was the Captain and we were just the crew. Another couple came (they were sassy and adorable – married for 20+ years with three kids in college and another in high school) and then this super cute, crazy chick came as well. It was absolutely a phenomenal time with all of the yachts lit up like Christmas trees and floating…well, FLOATS! And we partied like rock stars with champagne and charcuterie and cheese and fruit and chocolate and…jello shots?! Sure. And oh! Don’t forget the moonshine that the crazy couple brought!

After the boat, the girls went out to find some dinner. Unfortunately, it was after 10PM and no restaurants were open on Balboa Island. But we managed to find a Chinese place where they told us if we ordered immediately that the kitchen would make us some food. I brought a giant bag with me that’s covered in fur and they asked if it was a DOG. So that was the joke of the night. Then a hot, HOT guy showed up who is one of the boy toys for one of Anna’s friends. Holy SMOKES, he was gorgeous. And chickie didn’t even really like him all that much. She went home with him and Anna took the other girl and me back to our cars. I drove back to my gorgeous resort hotel and crashed. Ahhhh.

Next morning: Brunch at Laguna Cliffs. Anna and Ella (not their real names, but close) showed up. The day was stunning, so we sat outside on the patio, looking out into the Pacific and ooh’d and aaaah’d and laughed about the prior evening and built each other up like only girlfriends know how to do. They told me of the type of love that’s out there just waiting for me. They told me of dreams I could and should chase and made me sound like a catch. I can do and have whatever I WANT!! Yes!

Decided I wanted to be alone on the last day/night of my trip – Saturday, as I had actually wanted some time to myself to think about the couple of days that I’d had with the Bulldog as well as my girlfriends, who really brought me back up. I like traveling alone and I’d wanted to catch up with my thoughts and write a couple of entries and just let myself sink back into reality. So I took off from Laguna, heading back to Los Angeles as I was staying in Santa Monica my last night.

But somehow, the Bulldog bulldogged his way into me picking him up on the way back up. It’s not really his fault, but I was resentful and told him that I needed to get up early in the AM so that I could take a walk on the beach and then get ready to go back to the airport. I told him that in picking him up I’d have to leave an hour earlier to drop him back off in Manhattan Beach. He told me no problem, that he’d take a cab back from LAX. Fine. In his defense, he did try to find out what was going on with me (just feeling a little bluesy about BD not really wanting me, I guess, but I sure wasn’t going to tell him that…and the fact that I was at that point kind of wasting my time hanging with him – I’d had my fill).

Interesting time, to say the least – we walked to 3rd Street Promenade in a sprinkling of rain, knowing that it would soon stop, only to have it turn into a pouring deluge! Streets were flooding, we were sopping wet (well, he was, I had the umbrella which he refused to get under), and we wanted to go to this place called the Misfit, but it was too crowded and we didn’t have reservations and it was too early for dinner. So we got a taxi to this underground bar called the Basement Tavern, which is in the basement of this cool old house. I loved it, but the BD was pissed off because I wouldn’t let him go back to the hotel to dry off first. Why should we if we were only going to go back out in the rain? OHHHH…he was mad. But the tequila helped him and the whiskey helped me and soon we were talking up a storm about how even though he LOVES ME that I deserve someone who’s NOT HIM. He kept telling me that he’s not on my level and it makes him uncomfortable. People, it was the SAME OLD STORY. Nothing really changes, does it? So look. If he says so I believe him. Fine.

It stopped raining, so after about four or five drinks we walked back to the hotel (we were maybe 10 blocks away) and decided to figure out where to go to dinner.
-
Angry sex. It was absolutely raw and delicious.

8PM is not the best time to be figuring out where to go to dinner in Los Angeles on a Saturday night, so we ended up at the Viceroy, which was an old standby for me back in the day in their bar (I met several famous movie industry people there and actually dated someone I’d met there). The bottom line is that dinner was great! We had tons of fun and walked back to the hotel afterwards where I crashed hard. I think the BD tried to get frisky again, but I asleep and apparently having nothing doing.

Last morning: I initiated sex. Breakfast. Hotel check-out. I did not get my early beach walk in because I was busy gettin’ busy. And that’s OK by me. Drove to the airport and dropped off my rental and dropped off the Bulldog at the taxi stand. We kissed and said goodbye. We won’t be seeing each other any more.
So that’s the rest of my trip. I probably didn’t have to number it, because I actually have more to say, but I’m sure it will come out eventually and I wanted an even 10 so I know when to stop today. I’m in the office right now but will be leaving soon. Just one more set of emails and I’m on Christmas Vacation!! Well, I’m going to try to be on vacation anyway. The show still goes on, but I won’t be in the office. Hooray.
Gotta roll.
