Can I just say that the Bulldog is definitely in his element here on the West Coast. He’s a California boy from birth, and I have no idea why he lives in our town. Well, I do know why he first came to our town, but I have no idea why he stayed.
When I told him I was staying in Venice and invited him to hang out, I could tell he was really kind of excited about that. His brother’s place (where he’ll stay for the rest of his time here) is in Manhattan Beach, which is a great location, by the way, but the brother doesn’t like to venture much into Los Angeles proper, so the Bulldog was happy to hear that I wanted to do STUFF in L.A.
The Bulldog had many, many suggestions for places to eat and see and do, mostly based on what I told him I was looking forward to doing. And every single one of his suggestions was a bullseye. A direct hit. He was dead on.
So we’ve been to several lovely eating establishments (his suggestions, both high and low-end) and done some fun shopping (my suggestions, plus some add-ons). We’ve walked the boardwalk, and sat on the lifeguard decks and looked out into the ocean.
And the Bulldog is much more happy here - he’s funny and witty and doesn’t complain half as much as he does back in our town. Must be the sea-salty air or something.
Last night he wanted to go old school and eat at Old Tony’s at the Redondo Beach Pier, which was about as much fun as I’ve ever had! It’s so 50s/60s retro and cool. He was a complete and total gentleman in every way and I actually felt like a girlfriend. In fact, not last night but the night before, we were kind of giving each other some verbal jabs, and I told him that he was the husband I never had. And then he told me that I was the wife he never had.
Yes, I walked a bit into the danger zone because I’ve had such a damn good time!
After dinner last night we hung out with his brothers who are pilots (can’t get away from those, ha!) and had a great time at a couple of their locals. A bit of bar hopping, some laughter and chit chat and then the Bulldog and I were both so tired that we had to call it a night around midnight.
The Bulldog drove us back to the hotel in Venice and that’s when I wrote yesterday’s super brief entry.
But like I said, awesome time!
Today I drove solo down to Orange County at Dana Point getting ready to go see my friend Anna. She lives in Laguna and we’re going to the Newport Boat Holiday thingy. I’m really looking forward to that and actually missing the BD a little bit. I did not invite him to this even because (A) I don’t think it would be appropriate, and (B) I need some alone time!
OK. Gotta get ready. She wants me there by 4:30 and I haven’t even changed my clothes yet!
Seriously, having SO MUCH FUN!!!
Love,
GS
