NJM15: Entry 20 in These Foolish Things

Today is turning out better than it started.

First of all, I overslept. Normally, I’m awake at 5AM and taking the dog out by 5:15, exercising, showering by 6, dressed and drying hair/doing makeup by 6:30 and out the door by 7.

Today I woke and noticed that it was getting light out, so I looked at my phone and it was 6:40!! If I’m not in my car at 7:00, I’ll get a ticket! So I raced around and didn’t even shower and got the dog out the door by 7:05 to let her do her business.

The parking meter guy showed up right as the dog was pooping and pulled up in front of my car, so I grabbed the dog as soon as she was done and ran to my car and opened the door and slid in while the meter maid drove off in a huff.

I applied my makeup as I waited in the drive through lane at Starbucks, just knowing that today was going to suck.

But it was bizarre how from the moment I said my first words to someone today (the Starbucks loudspeaker person), the demeanor back to me was friendly sugar and honey. Everyone, and I mean everyoneEXCEPT for Negative C was over the top friendly with me and seemingly and in a good mood today.

The sun was shining and I eased and breezed through the day for the most part.

SHIP sent me a bunch of FB messages today, including photos of his sons (such handsome little boys). One of his boys, Anton, has a birthday tomorrow and he’s planning a party and he send me photos of the dinner he made and a roaring fire and everything just looked so cozy and warm and delicious. Sigh.

I wrote him back a few times. He told me that I’m “so classy” when i write to him. Swoon.

The only downside of the day was Negative C, who just can’t seem to help but bring the whole spirit of my team down. It’s gotten so bad that Pseudo-Boss is extremely upset with her because she is so noticeably, seriously a big, fat downer.

Meanwhile, I’m thrilled that someone on the upper end of management can see this and is asking me how I haven’t blown my own brains out yet. Trust me, it’s been a close call a time or two.

Anyway, the day ended and my COOL counterpart asked me to go to happy hour at this new place, and I brought the dog and we sat out on the patio and had a great time laughing and talking and having a beer (I had a cider and it was OK). A couple of my co-workers are going to the late night museum exhibits in the arts district in my neighborhood, so we’ll meet up around 10:00 and walk around until midnight (If I last that long).

So, time to walk the dog and then come back and get ready for LATE NIGHT art exhibits. I knew I wouldn’t have time to write when I come home tonight, so…on that note…

Goodnight!
