Today was busy. Every day is going to be busy. Here is so far what I know and it may sound helter skelter because it is. So follow along at your own pace and if you get lost leave me a note at the end and I will try to help you.... if I can.
In the a.m. accuchecks on all patients who need them. Bascially all of them. If it is under 90 or over 130 call the nurse so that way they get insulin before breakfast. Then vitals. Pass out fresh water and ice for there pitchers. Everyone gets a bed bath of some sorts. Answer allll call bells. Gown up glove up and go for it from scabies, T.B. merca, c - diff. Did you know they have a anus cath? Yep. Me neither. I put a bed pan under neath a realllllllllllly big lady and I missed and she shit the bed. O so sorrrrrry. Nice. No depends, diapers nothing. You are free ballin it. No 15 minute break and a lunch - you have to have a lunch. 30 minute for a 12.5 hour day. I sat outside today. It was beautiful.
I did buy some sketchers over the weekend. What a blessing those shoes are. I put on a brand new pair - ran like the wind. Nurses sit. We don’t. At. All. Time goes fast, the patients are nice and most of the nursing staff is good. I asked for help and they did. I am so grateful for that. Some hate to help and won’t. Unless you call them on it then they do.
My arse is dragging and I am tired but I got to do another 12 hour tomorrow. The woman who trained me today is off tom. and I will have a new one. Right now it is overwhelming. O! And we have “Sitters” ~ Where you sit with the patient. Just sit for whatever reason. Mostly just Baker Acted. We get the people from the jail up the street to take care of. So far interesting.
Goodnight. 4:30 a.m. comes early.
