I have a serious question for y’all, and yeah, there’s an ulterior motive, but not the one that’s obvious. I’m going to tell you the ulterior motive and then it won’t be ulterior it’ll be anterior. I’d like to know what music you dig from the last five years. The obvious motive would be to make fun of your tastes. Not my intent, just the opposite, I’m making fun of my own. Well, no, not exactly, I don’t have any.
I have really strong opinion on music from 14th century French motets, renaissance fugues, symphony’s, the birth of the blues, Jazz, gospel, swing, big band, every decade of and genre from my birth unti somewhere in the middle of the 2010’s. Even wrose, I’m snobby about it, and, worse still, I can back up my opinions fairly eloquently if pressed.
I’m pretty sure they didn’t quit making music, I just … my sources have dried up. I mean my internal ones are intact, I haven’t lost standards or appreciation, I’ve lost outlets for hearing new music. You’d think radio would work. No, it has never worked. I guess if you have patientence to wade through all the horseshit on independent radio; lesbian talk shows on gun control, suburban blonde dreadlocked disc spinners, whatever is popular on the white market, grey market and underground, you might find a gem or two, but I had me put off at “if you have patience …”
Besides being a bit dialed in to the scene in the NW, there were also dive music store with cut-out vinyl and tape and discs, where if you dropped ten bucks on things you liked the cover art of, you’d have ten discs. And if you’re in the right kind of dive the cut outs are not things that were over-purchased, just things under-sold.
It’s not like that around here. I’m a little dialed in around here, but the focus in very narrow.
Some of you, the few I know well and might read my hermit entries, well I respect your opinions even if I don’t agree with your tastes. That doesn’t even matter at the moment. I want to know what anybody is listening too that’s new within the last five years that they go too when they need a mood, any mood, or want to augment and amplify a mood, any mood, they are already in.
I really don’t have a clue about the talent out there lucky enough to make it into a recording studio. If you’re concerned about exposing your genre tastes and you want to stick to mine my favorite genres are things that swell my balls, things that cock my hat, things that make me laugh and cry, things that make me bounce, artistry with an instrument, song that the fuck has been written out by songwriters that can write the fuck out of a tune (um, that’s one of those things where out means in, I want fuck in the tune) but mostly, I want to know what you’re listening too that’s current, new, iconic.
I used to be a good note whore. It involves being a good note slut which I’ve let lapse, so, maybe I won’t get a very broad selection. But please, something, would be cool.
