This Too is Motherhood Tuesday, December 02, 2008
I love this time of year.
As I rocked her to sleep tonight I looked over at the Christmas tree. Its lights danced around the tree in multi-colors. Just beyond the tree is the window. Outside the snow fell in big white Christmas-y flakes. Both cats sleep near by. It's almost like a Hallmark card come to life... and I think... How did I get so lucky?
When my baby girl sleeps, there can be no wrong in the world. It's the most beatiful, innocent, and comforting feeling in the world. It melts my heart like nothing more. She's clean, fed, and warm. I know she feels safe, and that's what I want for her... and I think... How did I get so lucky?
I carry her from her bouncy chair to her crib. Carefully lifting her so that I don't wake her. I tip toe to her crib and lay her in it. She fusses for a short while and I see her body relax. I pull the blanket over her legs and waist. I can't help but stare at her... and I think... How did I get so lucky?
I tip toe back to my bedroom. I get under the covers. Before I go to sleep I pray for her safety and thank God for another day... and I think... How did I get so lucky?
