There's Always Room for Comedy in New Beginnings

I took my dad for his biopsy today. The procedure went as intended with no complication, though Dad was worn out afterwards. I expect we’ll receive the results in no more than a week.

One humorous incident occurred. After the biopsy, Dad was lying in a bed to rest, and they had curtained us off from the rest of the room. The nurse brought in a young boy with his mother. The child must have been about 9 or so with one of those thick country accents. I couldn’t see them because of the curtain, but I heard everything. He wasn’t receiving a shot, but he was due for something that involved a needle in his arm. He was concerned about that needle as most 9 year olds would be. At one point the following exchange took place.

Mom: You’ll be all right. Just pretend you’re your father.

Boy: Daddy don’t like needles either. I ain’t gotta’ pretend like I don’t like needles-I really don’t like ‘em!

A few minutes later when the nurse was about to stick him, I heard:

Nurse: Okay, you gotta’ hold still. If you fidget and I miss, I’ll have to stick you again. On the count of three. One, two, three.

Boy: AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

I don’t know if your laughing, Dear Reader. Maybe you just had to be there, but I almost snorted. I had to fight to keep from laughing out loud, further proof that I’m unsuitable to be a parent.
