Headed to San Diego, mimosa in hand. I gotta get into this presentation mindset. Mimosa is helping. So is the upgrade I got for this flight. And the location. I could be going somewhere worse, like Southeastern China, which is where I’ll be headed in a little over a month. Ugh. But today is OK. So far anyway.
No heart pains in the last two days. That’s good. But yes, I got a lotta notes telling me to check this shit out. I do think it’s stress related and I haven’t yet checked my blood pressure, but I believe it’s time to do that, among other things.
I’m looking forward to this meeting - one of my former colleagues is going to be there. And tonight is a pre-meeting get-together at a head dude’s house in Carlsbad. So that should be interesting. My company’s CEO will be there along with my boss’s counterpart and I’m looking forward to be out of the office yet a somewhat sophisticated setting with other adults and no puppy (ha!). She’s at her step-mom’s for a few days.
So, one of my staff is having her 10-year anniversary and I went to my boss and asked if we could do something special for her on the company dime. I have been taking my staff to lunch on my own nickel every several weeks, and I thought that this was something special, and my boss agreed.
So he offered me either a happy hour with all of marketing, or a small but very nice dinner with my team of people (6 of us), and she opted for the intimate dinner. Fine.
BUT! She has since solicited other people to throw her a happy hour! Of course, it wouldn’t be on the company budget, but she’s actually asking others if they will throw a happy hour for her anniversary!!
Look, she’s a total social outcast and nerd and she accepts that, but she also needs to be coddled, and that kind of pisses me off. She’s very hard to work with and I’ve given her the name (privately) Negative C. She’s a difficult person. I just am very surprised that she’d have the balls to ask someone to set up a happy hour for her after I’d already given her the dinner honor AND she accepted it OVER a happy hour!
ANyway. We are on our descent. I’ve had three mimosas in addition to the bloody mary I drank earlier today. I’m good and buzzed and need to sober up before we land. I don’t think it will be hard. Lots of turbulence. Ugh.
Here we go….
I love you,
GS
