Happy Birthday to Me! Wednesday, September 26, 2007
Today was my birthday.
It was a very good birthday. Every one of my friends called me to wish me a happy birthday. Michael took me out for icecream. (ColdStone! MMmmm) I had a test in algebra in which I can assure you I passed with flying colors. I have a 100.1% in the class. In biology we had a pop quiz yesterday. We got the test back today. Before the professor handed them back he gave the class a lecture about how we all need to study... blah blah blah. I don't know what he cares, he didn't pay the 700 bucks to take the class. Anyway, most people failed. Yours truly got a 3.0. I missed 4. I was so excited.
This is why I am so excited. In high school I did NOTHING. I went to class. I watched the clock. I watched out the window. I tried hard to perfect the art of looking invisible to the teacher. I hated school. I was one of those who never studied, never did homework, and really didn't pay all that much attention. I passed school with mostly "C's." I hated school because I was never prepared. When I in class and the teacher picked me to answer something I never knew the question, let alone the answer! NOW: it's different. I study my butt off, and guess what! Today during class we were reviewing and I knew most of the answers! I actually could answer the professor when he asked questions. I was excited! I was unstoppable. I felt so good. I felt smart. I am 32 years old and feeling this feeling of intelligence for the first time. I feel like I belong somewhere. I feel I belong in school. This feels good.
Today marked the first time in my whole life I didn't see my mother on my birthday. First time in 32 years. You see, it matters a lot because it's her birthday too and for the last 31 years we have taken a picture of me on her lap. We missed it this year. I am going to see her on Saturday and we'll do our little tradition then, but somehow it doesn't seem the same.
Today was a good day.
