And It Comes Full Circle Sunday, July 22, 2007
Common Ground: A place where everyone in the city (my city) come together and watch past bands that are too old and/or not popular enough to play anywhere else. It's a week long concert that sets up on the street and park that is right next to my college.
Downtown Capital City: A place where they decided to rip up all the streets in the downtown area to make a turn about with a fountain in the middle of it. (taking no mind that the capital city is out of money and located in the worst economical state with the HIGHEST unemployment rate of the nation) Yippy!
So I went to school the day before Common Ground started and I was forced to circle the blocks of downtown many time before I figured out that the detour for my college parking ramp was indeed set up to make me go down a one way street the wrong way. When I finally figured out the whole detour I entered the ramp, placed my parking card into the ramp meter, and went to go take my test. After the test I got into my car and started to drive out of the parking ramp. However, the ramp exit I have always used was closed. This forced me to use the other ramp that I had never used before that put my on the opposite side of the campus. By time time I realized I hadn't found the place to put my parking ramp card in, I was on the main street. This means the ramp gate must have been up and I didn't need to put my card in. This means my card is still activated as me being in the ramp.
I decided to not worry about it until the next time I went to school. I didn't want to drive all the way around the school to get back into the parking ramp, walk all the way to the parking desk, and explain it all. So the next time I arrived at the school the parking meters were closed due to free parking during Common ground. So instead I just went to the place to add more money on my card. It read that I still had the same amount as last time I was there.
Well, Common Ground passes and I go to school and free parking is over so I place my card into the meter and all my money is gone. So I go to the parking desk and tell them what happened and she kindly puts money back on my card. Then I go to the advisor desk and sign in for my advisor appointment in which the lady replied that I have the wrong date, and it's next Friday. So I decide to just go and take my test number 6 at the math lab. I get there, get all settled in, and begin my test.
About 10 mintues into the test the fire alarms go off with the announcement: "Please be advized that a possible fire situation is occuring. Please stand by for more info." As the sirons are blaring I try to continue on with my test. Then someone comes into the testing area and says, "I will let you know if we are evacuated." So I start drawing on my scrap paper a picture of the place burning down. There was no way I was going to continue trying to take this test while every 30 seconds I get blasted with sirons. Then the next announcement, "Please be aware that in 10 minutes the building will be losing power. The back up generators should (yes they said should) turn on." yippy! testing the in the dark with sirons! So after about 5 minutes pass the same guy that came in earlier comes in and says, "Pencils down. We must evacuate the buidling." Lots of moaning and complaining happens. It's a test rule: Once you start a test if you have to quit it for any reason you are graded as is. They kindly explained that this wouldn't happen to us. So I asked, "can we now take two test on monday since it's the end of the semester and not much time left?" He said, "I don't know" and that was the end of it.
So I walk out the math lab and some girl is on her cell phone heading to the elevators. I just audiable enough for her to hear say, "I wouldn't use that elevator if I was you." And that's when her lightbuld turned on. Duh. People are stupid. The power is going out any minute and they all decide to use the elevators? Come on people! When I got the bottom floor all three elevators were in use. Stupid.
So where am I going with my story? I went to the parking ramp. The power is going off so all the gates are open and no place to stick my parking card. This means tomorrow when I go to school I will have no money on my card again.

I can't believe the lady put money back on your card without requiring you to run all over campus, gathering signatures from at least half a dozen people (most of whom are on vacation, in a meeting, otherwise unavailable or just plain don't have anything to do with parking).
I loathe university administration.
