My career is with mainframe computers. My last job was as a contractor with delta airlines - 8 1/2 years before they outsourced my job to Brazil. I knew I was going to get laid off so i started looking for a new job. I got a new job supporting computer hardware for another major datacenter company. It was the dumbest ‘job’ I ever had! I worked alone at night in a secure computer room facility. I thought i would be working on servers and switches remotely for companies but I was mainly a high tech security guard. My company charged $75/hour for me to work on customers equipment. Because of that most companies sent their own people to work on their equipment. I just monitored the environment and watched TV and movies all night. I could sleep if I wanted to also!

About 6 months in working that job my company announced they were selling the data center to a compnay I never heard from before. That was a red flag for me and I started looking for another job again. That same week I applied for 1 job. I interviewed on the phone. My manager was from South Carolina. I got the job offer but I was reluctant to take it because I hadnt seen the area of work or met any of the people. How strange is it to get a job offer without meeting anyone!
