Ergh, what a shift. in Stuff

I absolutely crushed the shit out of the back of my right hand at work today.
We have lifts that bring up and down stock from the stockroom to the shop floor, and the left lift doesn’t quite even up with the top level, so the only way to get the rollcages off is to attack the edge of the lift on an angle and generally, the rollcage will come off. Sometimes it won’t at all and i have to close the door, send the lift down, emergency-stop it and bring it back up in the hope that it’ll be a little more even with the level. But it just needed a little extra pull on an angle to get it over.
What I didn’t count on was jamming my right hand in between the rollcage the the bit sticking out on the side of the lift. MAN that hurt. I must’ve stood there with my hand between my legs trying my hardest not to swear out loud from the pain.
And there are so many veins on the top of one’s hand. Like, I was sure I almost ruptured one of them, but I guess if I had, I’d be in the hospital right now, so that’s a good thing. It still hurts as I type right now. I’ve definitely taken the slightest bit of skin off it. It might swell up by morning, who knows.

The whole shift was fucked though. I get to work to help out on a Sunday (as I do for 5 hours) only to start investigating two boxes and then get a callover from the store manager asking to contact him. So I went up to the service desk and did so, and he tells me to start the LTO.
I was confused. Hadn’t my manager already done that by the time I arrived?
Nope. Turns out he wan’t even there. Called in sick.

So my entire shift was spent flat out doing that and the Fill Report. I barely got that done on time when my shift was up, with about 8 cages of stock plus 3 dairy and 1 freezer.. so yep 12 CAGES of investigations still sitting there in the stockroom, untouched (bar the 2 boxes I managed to do LOL).

When my shift was up, the store manager was on a break in the lunchroom and I just declared, “Right, I’m outta here!” and told him I’d done the report and the LTO and not to be surprised about the fuckton of work that was still to be done in the stockroom LOL. Oh geez. There is NO way I could possibly have completed all that in a measley 5 hour shift. Even if I had another full-day on top of that shift, I’d be scraping to get it all completed. No wonder they need help on a Sunday. But when the ‘help’ is left to fend on his own, they’ve got no chance.
So I just did the best I could and got the hell out of there. They can deal with it tomorrow, and I’m off, so woohoo!!

A big work-week coming up. Doing 38 hours for Easter week, so even if they wanted to call me in to help with the rest of that crap, they couldn’t, as paying overtime is a pretty big no-no with upper management. Still, I wouldn’t be complaining - two public holiday shifts PLUS an overtime shift and I’d be actually getting paid close to what the fatcats in my country earn!

Just as well I didn’t completely fuck my hand up or I wouldn’t be working much at all.
And of course I didn’t just bang it once did I. Clever Matt decided to jam the same hand TWICE didn’t he? I tell you what, the second time I’m glad I wasn’t on the shop floor because customers would have complained about the abusive curse-words coming from one of the staff members.

Also, are customers blind or something? Like I’m only 6 foot 3 barrelling down the aisle with a rollcage full of stock. It’s like they don’t even notice or deliberately want to be run down.

Also, there was a guy outside my work who sat down RIGHT next to me and lit up a cigarette.
I wanted to punch him right in the nose.

Not good! Another friend of mine who works at Woolworths in rural NSW did the same thing to her hand with the rollcage once. They sound scary!
