The new ads should now be gone. Many of you noticed strange links and small popups around the site over the last week. We did not intentionally turn those on, so it took us a few days to figure out what was happening.
Our ad provider automatically runs experiments from time to time to increase ad revenue. We allow some testing since ad revenue has dropped over the last few years, but this type of ad should have been blocked.
As a reminder, subscribing turns off ads completely and helps us pay for the servers and keep the site running.
I should also mention that we’re making some behind the scenes improvements to help the site run better. I’m only mentioning this because things sometimes get weird when we make these kinds of updates. If you notice anything new that seems broken or strange, please let us know.
On more thing: we’re getting close to rolling out the new features I mentioned a while back. I’ll share more in a future post 😉
