I have returned with another one of these music-related entries.  It is my intent to move away from saying any disparaging remarks about today's music.  As I've said before, I despise the music of today, to where it makes me run back to the tunes of yesteryear.

This entry will bring us back to the year, 1979.

For this entry, I present to you this classic, performed by the R&B/soul trio of Ray, Goodman, and Brown.

Inside of You

Inside of You was one of eight songs from the group's eponymous album that released in 1979.  It was one of two singles that were released from that album and was clearly not as popular as the more successful single, "Special Lady".  Inside of You, the second of those two songs to be released reached #76 on the Billboard Hot 100.  For comparison's sake, Special Lady would peak at #5.

While I like both songs, if you're asking me to choose my favorite of the two, it would be Inside of You.

I know that when I hear the name of the song, I sometimes can't help but to think that the name of the song has dirty connotations.  It's not until I hear the words that I become well aware that this song is anything but dirty or in any way sexual.

When I listen to this song, it conjures up thoughts of being so close and connected to someone, to where being inside of them would be a viable destination.  I want to be inside her mind, inside her heart, and inside of her every waking thought.  This is the kind of "inside" that this song makes me think of and while it truly is romantic, it also shows the power and connection that love can bring with it.

The song references loving her so much that it just seems like getting close enough to her just isn't possible.  That's powerful.  I love this woman so much and as intense as those feelings might be, the idea of not being able to get close enough to her is mind-boggling and even unfathomable.  Is such closeness not possible?  Are there forces that might prevent my getting close or inside of her?

I like the idea of being in love with her and truly, being inside of her, as this song portrays.  Maybe I'll have those feelings on occasion, that I'll never get as close to her as I would like, but having said that, there is still a certain closeness that I do feel to her.

Make no mistake though.

I do want to be as close to her as I can possibly get.

Every day love grows (every day love grows)
Deeper and deeper
I just want to get inside of you
Oh, I wanna be more than a part of you
'Cause loving you the way that I do
