Joe, messages and AI in Book Two

This morning I got a really long message from my friend Joe who is back in Taiwan. I thought, “there is no way he could have written all this on his phone.” And as I was thinking this I got another message that said he had help from AI. Of course he did. It didn’t sound like Joe. I was laying in bed, still half asleep. It wasn’t 6 o’clock yet.

The AI thing annoys me. I like to write so I am biased. But I really don’t like the way AI takes the personality out of writing and I really don’t like the way AI puts a pleasant personality into writing. I think, “this person writes like a person I would not like to have as a friend.”

After I got up I thought I would answer Joe on my laptop. I remember that I used to message my real estate clients from my laptop. Turns out it has been since 2023 that I have messaged anyone from my laptop and as I went through the old real estate messages deleting them one by one I was reminded how much I hated that job at the end. My clients were so helpless and needy (and I was so smooth and capable.) That iteration had run its course.

So now I have to write back to Joe.
