Today was the anticipated hatch day of our Eastern Bluebirds. I kept an eye on the nest box all day, waiting for Mrs. B to pop out so I could check the nest box. Finally, I saw the pair fly off together and ran outside. I was surprised to see three tiny heads pop up with their beaks open, hoping for food. I wasn’t quick enough with my phone to get that photo but I did get the one below. It was too cold today (46F) so I didn’t want to leave the box open for more than a few seconds. This is all I got. How many do you count?

I hope mama broods them tight tonight. There’s a freeze warning. I never thought we’d have the fireplace on in May.
