When I am here at K.’s house, it feels like the house swallows me whole. I went with Rick yesterday, back to the apartment. We had a few errands to run, and I just wanted to be back in my own space for a bit.

We procured some groceries first, then went to the apartment. I decided to make a bunch of food to bring back with us. Rick worked on his Blender project while I putzed around in the kitchen for a few hours.

I baked GIGANTIC potatoes and planned to just serve them with canned chili and cheese. I washed and sliced strawberries for yogurt and snacking. Lastly, I washed and cut collard greens, and made white chicken spaghetti with canned chicken, spaghetti, a can of cream of chicken soup, frozen peas, and parmesan cheese. When it was done, I tasted it and it was GOOD. But within 10 minutes, the pasta had soaked up any moisture.

Rick was gearing up to come back to K.’s so I had to wrap up my cooking tasks and pack up. I decided to bring along a can of cream of mushroom soup to add to the pasta to bring it back to the creamy concoction I had in mind initially. I also knew that we had milk and butter here at K.’s so I knew it would be more successful here, where I have more ingredients.

The drive back was mildly frustrating. We left the apartment before 4, hoping to beat the traffic. But the traffic found us, anyway.

When we got back to K.’s I noticed a tiny metal cylinder laying on the brick front patio. When I bent over to pick it up, I realized that it was a component to a key ring Rick has. I picked it up and presented it to Rick, and his reaction was, “Oh FUCK. Are you fucking kidding me?”

Apparently, the cylinder is just large enough to hold two tablets, and Rick has always used this to hold a couple of Aleve, which he takes for his back. But lately, he had one Aleve and one Adderall in it. He was upset, because his insurance lapsed, and he cannot get more Adderall, so the thought of losing one these tabs would be very frustrating. I am glad I noticed it laying there!

Once we were inside, Rick went about trying to find room in TWO refrigerators for the food I brought back. Free space is a commodity here. K. NEVER cleans his fridge. NEVER. Like there are things in there I have been looking at for two years. Not like rotting meat or anything, but I am sure there are probably some very interesting science experiments in there.

I have tried and tried to clean spaces out of expired food on numerous occasions, but K.’s hoarder tendencies make him VERY incapable of making choices, or allowing someone else to do it for him. He gets TESTY, so I have largely abandoned that quest. He was doing really well about six months ago. The kitchen was CLEAN and decluttered. Free counter space. Now we are back to chaos and literally no clear flat surfaces. I know exactly why. K. bought a new house near Portland, and I think that stress caused a major relapse.

Anyway, Rick attempted to put my large tupperware of chicken pasta in the fridge, but the only free space was on top of the gajillion bottles of alcohol on the top shelf. He got it in and then suddenly, there was commotion, and a lot of cussing, breaking glass, and I froze… PLEASE TELL ME THE DOM PERIGNON DIDN’T BREAK!? Nope. Just a jar of relish I had packed to use with tuna. And the bowl of pasta landed upside down on the floor. The lid stopped a majority of it from spilling out, but we did lose a bit.

I am really thinking of doing a rearrange of stuff to make it safer and more efficient in that kitchen.

Rick tells me to take some time to read a book he gave to me. So I read while he heated up dinner. I like being able to say that all of the components for a meal are already prepped and just need to be thrown together. It is SO much easier. If Rick cooks a meal from start to finish, there will always be something burned. His ADHD makes it impossible to concentrate on making a full meal.

He got dinner plated, and it was really yummy, but I was glad that I had chosen a normal sized potato as opposed to his gargantuan potato, which was three times the size of mine lol. The past few days, I haven’t felt like eating a whole lot. But I skipped breakfast and lunch yesterday, so I managed to scarf it down.

After dinner, we decided to watch tv from bed. We chose a documentary called “Shut Up Little Man!”. Some of Rick’s puppet work along with camera work was actually featured in the movie. It was super cool to see a piece of his creativity and art on a big screen.

I slept okay last night, but today will be a little anxiety driving for me. K.’s girlfriend, Heidi, will be spending the next three nights here, in the living room. I am hoping she’s just crashing here, because we are pretty much spread out all over the house. I don’t want to feel like I am walking on eggshells, or hiding out of anxiety. So I am planning on tidying up this morning. Making sure that anything I might want or need isn’t in her way.

Whelp, I gotta go feed a very talkative macaw, who is in his room repeatedly saying, “Hello! HIIIIIIIIIII MAX!” And then exasperated sighs. From a BIRD. Okay, Max! I’m coming with your breakfast!

I hope you all have a good weekend!
