For the last month or so I’ve been buying groceries on Thursdays. I kind of like having a set day to do it. It gives me a reason to know what day it is, all week though. Reason it’s Thursday is that a friend of my son and his wife - well they’re both his friends - God who care? Not me much. But what leads to grocery buying is that she sets up a baked goods wagon in town that day and we like to buy stuff from her. I like banana bread best, but cinnamon rolls and cookies and scotcharoos are good. She’s been in the cupcake business for some time now and they’ve been showing up on her wagon the last few weeks.
It’s for sure a self-indulgence and I look forward to it.
Thus I go to the grocery store too.
Makes me feel organized.
Weather’s warming up and I might check out the park tomorrow too. Dog and I went for a short but pleasant walk this evening - up to Gracie’s pond. I take my notebook along and do a bit a writing in the fresh air.
Talking writing/reading/etc., here’s a bit of Google:
The Correspondent by Virginia Evans (2025) is a highly acclaimed, bestselling epistolary novel structured entirely through letters written by a 73-year-old protagonist, Sybil Van Antwerp. It explores themes of memory, aging, and connection as Sybil writes to friends, family, and authors, using letters to process her past, present, and estranged relationships.
The Camden, Maine library’s YouTube channel has a kind, distinguished man read from a book each Friday. Last week he read from the book above, recommending it highly, saying it’s likely to be on this years best book lists. The woman in the book writes letters every day at ten AM. Doesn’t that sound like fun?
