On My Mind in Poetry

I was good,

(I wasn't)

I was okay,

(I'm lying)

Until you added it to your list

On the day you told me to leave

Maybe you don't know,

Maybe you forgot,

Maybe it wasn't for me to see,

But those notes got me through

The chords help me together when you couldn't

But I was putting them down,

Trying to forget,

Going back to the noise that used to drown out the noise in my head

Until you turned the volume down and breathed in the calm

You kept the darkness away until I felt safe

That's why it doesn't matter

How much it hurts, or for how long it'll be or how frustrating it seems to be sometimes

You call and I'll come...

Because everything I hold dear resides in those hazel eyes
