November 3. Monday. First official day of unemployment. Let’s get on with the day.
My robot vacuum did not get the time change memo. I have her set for 6:30am to start her clean-up, but this morning at 5:30, off she went, just sweeping away. I’m fine with it. Nothing wrong with getting an early start. Same for me!
In other good-ish news, last week I’d spilled my coffee all over my magic keyboard, and the “t” stopped working after I dried it off. A keyboard with no “t” is useless. I tried drying it out in the sun. I looked at YouTube videos for how to fix a broken key. I took the key off the board and cleaned/dried underneath. But nothing worked.
So on Friday when I said “fuck it” to my last day of employment, I took myself to the shopping district and found myself making an appointment at the Apple store to see if the geniuses at the Genius Bar could work some magic on the magic keyboard.
Meanwhile, at the suggestion of Kitty Cat, I put the keyboard in a makeshift bag of rice. I didn’t have enough rice to cover the board, and baggies are too small, so I rigged up a Walmart shopping bag, added rice and placed the keyboard upside down in the rice. Totally half-assed. I really didn’t think it’d work.
But when I was getting myself ready to go back to the Apple store yesterday for my appointment, I was like, well, I guess I should check out the keyboard before I go…
And lo and behold, the “t” was working!! Granted, it’s a little lame, and sometimes it’s slow to show on the screen, and I have to tap it a little harder than the other letters, but it’s working!
So, the rice trick works for sure. I’ve used it before on phones, but this method is legit some kind of magic, I guess. Though the experts say it’s a terrible idea. I say as long as it’s a quick fix for me, I’m fine. I bought this keyboard for $20 on FB marketplace anyway.
For my workout this morning, I’m starting a new plan.
Last week, one of my sweet college friends asked me if I had any good workout programs for her to start, and our text conversation eventually lead to us being accountability partners for the next 5 weeks!
She was initially very excited, and said, “just tell me what to do!”
But yesterday, when I sent her a reminder and some details, I could just tell that she wasn’t so excited, and I am curious to see how she does.
She is one of those naturally beautiful and muscular people who’ve NEVER had to work out in their whole LIFE. Do you know anyone like this? Really, really good genes. Long, lean, yet naturally muscular! It’s wild. But in her 50s, she’s noticed a meno-belly (which, I can’t even tell at all on her) and a slight weight gain (again, I don’t see it), and she wants to start with light weights.
This first week will be even more interesting because tomorrow I have to get a super scary-looking squamous cell carcinoma lesion removed from my arm. This is a whole thing. I am sure I’ll write a lot more about it this week, but it’s going to affect my workouts in the very first week!
If you’re curious and want to see what we are doing or want to follow along, click this link! All the videos in the playlist are in reverse order, so start with the last one (#25) first and work your way backwards.
I’m going to go do the workout now and then check in with her.
Good luck to us!
