Hey everyone,
Lots going on behind the scenes at PB lately! Really excited about Buffy’s updates to fighting spam, that comment spam was getting absolutely insane. I will say that there were some pretty hilarious ones that came in, though.
This has to be one of my favorites:
I mean, I know it’s just AI slop, but it really cracks me up.
Before we get into site stuff, a Mochi update: the tiny old man is doing well, but he’s getting up there. As best as I can tell, he’s “fourteen” (he was “seven” when I rescued him, and I can’t exactly cut him open and count the rings) and age is catching up with him. He’s mostly deaf these days, so we primarily communicate with hand gestures, eye contact, or the occasional clap if he’s being a naughty potato.
He also recently had some dental surgery and most of his teeth had to go. I’d been nervous about surgery for a few years despite him having some pretty bad dental issues, mostly because of the anesthesia and his age. But, thankfully, I found a local surgeon with a stellar reputation who held my hand through the experience, and it went REALLY well! He’s in such better spirits. As a side effect, though..
HE IS A BLEP MACHINE!!
Before I got Mochi, I always assumed I’d get a pug. And, well.. I kind of have one now? It’s pretty good.
ANYWHO, on to site business.
Some of you may recall, back in the beforetimes I ran a research study to try and determine how best to reorganize the site navigation. Our navigation has always been a bit wonky (love ya SM!), and I had a hypothesis that we could make it a bit more intuitive. Well, that study produced some great results! That.. I then didn’t do anything with. But hey, now we have Buffy on the team and we’re steadily making headway on improving the site. Feels like the perfect time to revisit.
So, what would that look like? Well, there’s a short-term version and a long-term vision that will require some restructuring of a few pages. I’d love to get your feedback on these. No wrong answers.
First, here’s what the short-term version could look like:
As you can see, a lot of things have been pulled out of today’s “My Prosebox” menu. That thing is doing a LOT of heavy lifting! Much of what’s in there related to connecting with others would now live under a “Community” menu. Why I like this is that it gives us a nice place to put new functionality in the future. Think “Circles” (spoilers), that kind of thing.
Next, here’s what the long-term vision could look like:
Quite a bit simpler! But also, I think, a lot cleaner and clearer. Especially if we’re wanting to bring in new users (and we’d certainly like to). This would require us to combine a few of these pages into a single tabbed experience, but rest assured we’d do so in a way that doesn’t break any bookmarks you might have.
Here’s what combining some of the pages might look like:
We’re also kicking around the idea of this streamlined version being something existing users would have to turn on in the settings, but truthfully that adds complexity when it comes to maintaining the code. So, pros and cons there. It’s all up for discussion though.

On a final note, you may see some minor changes to the login, sign up, and homepage in the coming days. We’re trying speed our fancy new Cloudflare spam protection up a bit.
