Hey everyone,

As most of you probably know, OpenDiary will be shutting down on the 31st of this month. There’s a been a notice on the front page for a minute:

What most of you don’t know, however, is that we’ve spent some of the time since we heard the news building an export tool for OpenDiary entries that we’re now able to share!

https://opendiary-exporter.vercel.app/

If any of you are willing and still have accounts over there, please post it so OD users can see it.

How it works

  1. Enter your OpenDiary email and password (this information isn't stored anywhere and we cant see it!)
  2. The software logs into OpenDiary and crawls every entry one by one, capturing the contents.
  3. You'll see a progress page, but you can close the tab and we'll email you when it's done. We've made it intentionally slow so we don't overwhelm the OD server.
  4. When it's done, you'll get an email with the download link. This link is private and only you can see it.
  5. The download link expires after 30 days, and your data is automatically deleted.

I know we’re launching this only a few days before OpenDiary shuts down, but we really hope it helps. We’re also working on a tool to import the files generated by the exporter into Prosebox that will come a bit later.

Anyway, I really hate that this is happening. I know there’s a lot of animosity towards OpenDiary on Prosebox for a wide variety of reasons, but it’s still disappointing to see it all go down this way.

Anywho, be gentle with the tool as it's still in beta. Have issues? Comment here or email at the address above and we'll fix them.

Spread the word, time is short!

<3,

Update 1/27 — please be patient with us as we work through some of the bugs, some of you have written SO MUCH over the years that it's making the poor robot weep. We're fine tuning, so if you got an error email give it another go.

Update 1/27 pt 2 — the tool has been working smoothly most of the day with only a few hiccups. if your export didn't work, try it again
