Today was a sea day and it was very laid back. I went to breakfast with LPCR and we were surprised by how empty the place was. La Prof joined us later, then she and I headed to the theatre for the naturalist’s lecture on what wildlife we can expect to see on this cruise, while LPCR goes to wake up her family. After that La Prof. took a nap in the room and I went to read in the “Quiet area”, which I preferred because it was open to the outside so I could get fresh air. There I ran into LPCR’s daughter so we hung out there for a while. It sounded like she has a healthy expectation of what college life is, which is good.

We had a long lunch at the dining room, then La Prof and I went to the naturalist’s second lecture, on how to identify glaciers and whales (which we already had learned about in our Antarctica trip), so it was a struggle to stay awake. So afterwards I went back to the quiet area to nap, and La Prof. came with.

I made some progress with reading (now I’m 3/5th of the way through the German fairy tales, so I have to pace myself), and went to the coffee bar to get my second drink. The cruisers rave about it, but it was actually similar to the barista bars we have at work, so I wasn’t as impressed. By the time I woke up, it was time for the captain’s welcome party. So we went to that with LPCR and her daughter. After that we all went back to our cabin to nap/sort out excursion tickets/play duo lingo, then it was already dinner time.

We went straight from dinner to the evening show with a comedian. And when that was finished we were all ready for bed. For a day of doing nothing, it was exhausting. But I’d like to think we used this day to adjust to the jet lag.

But at least the sunset was lovely.
