Or dreaming-awake?

My recent experience with Family Constellations work and the profound-and instantaneous- effect it had on my family was a poignantly informative event. This even, which I detailed in my personal journal;

Personal Journal Excerpt:

Guys. I had the book, read ONE chapter, and went through an exercise and within 12 hours my mom emailed me.
Not only that but she APOLOGIZED and admitted that SHE WAS WRONG.

It was like a wake-up call.

Not a waking-up from dreaming. A waking-up into dreaming.

From this preternatural experience in Energetic Psychology, as Christof Melchizedek is want to call it, I gained perspective about what this Energy is and how it acts in this realm of physicality. More importantly, I began to interact with it in a conscious way to influence and effect this realm of physicality with intelligence and intention.

It wasn’t until I read Thomas Mayer’s book Answering the Call of the Elementals, that I began to really gain conceptual awareness of these experiences and place them into a coherent framework. Of course, Steiner has much more to say about the Elementals and how they are the beings which, under the direction of the Angels, Archangels, and other Higher Spiritual Beings, create this physical material realm in which we humans exist and find our current consciousness embedded in.

“Much art in the centuries not so very distant from our own can therefore be explained because there was then an awareness of man’s connection with the elemental world of the spirit that borders directly upon the physical world.” Rudolph Steiner, KALEVALA ; Public Lecture, Lecture 3 Donarch, 15 November 1914

Don’t get me wrong. I know that I just wrote that Perceiving the Spiritual World does not require any special gifts. And it doesn’t. It is a capacity which exists in every human being. However, I must interject that I do have a quite extraordinary skill and capacity for the thinking ability of Synthesis. Which, is a form of thinking that is entirely Feminine, in contrast to the Masculine form of thinking; Analysis. In addition to a highly developed and flexible ‘I’ -which all human beings possess whether they exercise this capacity or not-, Synthesis is a highly experiential process that occurs within the sphere of Thinking. This aptitude in Thinking is developed- even though everyone possesses it, not everyone has exercised their muscles in the same way. Thinking therefore is an objective experience, which anyone may prove for themselves to be true, through pursuing it in the reproducible, dependable, spiritual scientific method.

“as regards his own soul-being, man belongs to a world which does not reveal itself to the outward senses but lies behind this sense-perceptible world, that in his innermost soul-nature he belongs to a world which he can approach neither by means of sense-observation nor by drawing logical conclusions based upon such observation. It will be the task of our time to develop great clarity about this point, that all knowledge which the outer senses impart and a philosophy that has its foundation solely in such knowledge cannot come near to the true mystery of the human soul.” Rudolph Steiner, KALEVALA ; Public Lecture, Lecture 3 Donarch, 15 November 1914

This exact capacity for Thinking resides within the Soul of human beings. If one is Thinking through the Soul, and not merely focused on the material content of the thoughts within the physical brain, then Thinking expands far beyond the limits of the brain, and indeed, takes place in and through the very Soul of the human being.
Dreaming and sleep-consciousness is the quintessential experience of the Soul’s capacity for Thinking. That we place such a low or negative value on the experience of dreams and sleep-consciousness is merely a necessity for our contemporary society. It would be far too difficult for the human beings of today to accept that, what they experience in sleep as what would be all sorts of petty indulgences and horrific faux-pas in waking life, as real and true reflections of the state of their Soul and Mind.

“In his life on Earth a human individual is aware only of the most insignificant part of his nature, he knows only that part of his life which is spent between waking up and going to sleep. The other part of his life is spent in sleep, and this part of human life has many, many aspects.
It would be true to say that for a great number of people this life during sleep entails that they come in contact with elemental cosmic beings who are connected with lower manifestations of human nature than the manifestations associated with the day. Between falling asleep until waking up-that is, in the realm of elemental life-people engage in all sorts of antics which would for them be unheard of in normal life. It is not an unfamiliar idea that dreams are of ten something to be ashamed of. This is a common experience that anyone can have. People do all sorts of undesirable things when they are asleep, in company that is not exactly good and which appeals to their passions and lower impulses and far worse than the company which they have cultivated during waking life.” Rudolph Steiner, KALEVALA ; Public Lecture, Lecture 3 Donarch, 15 November 1914

So it is the exact necessity for contemporary human beings to focus on developing their waking-life consciousness that they discard the dreaming and sleep consciousness.

And this is just a fact. It needn’t be resisted nor derided. Rather, it should enter into our array of perceptions just as one might enter into the knowledge that the sun rises each day in the east. And that is what I did. As I allowed this perception to deepen and broaden my concepts of my own inner experiences-the experiences that don’t necessarily have anything to do with the physical material world, but are still related it- I began to see that shifting consciousness is what I do. In fact this is the basis of all the world! While meditating, I perceive a shift occur. Increasingly during sleep, I perceive the shifts and am able to retain knowledge of my ‘I’. The experiences have begun to resemble one another more closely. So that, what I had previously perceived as 2 distinct lives that I was living-one dreaming and one waking- they are almost interchangeable.

And so, after my original experience with performing the exercises in the Family Constellations book It Didn’t Start With You by Mark Wolynn, when I received a follow up message from my mother that not only negated the first message, but reiterated her old, ingrained patterns, I perceived deep and meaningful feedback from the energy which informed these messages. It was a cherishing of my will to action- that any prayer done in earnest genuine feeling is answered. However, it is not answered in the way one necessarily wants in a waking consciousness. For, while this spiritual energy does create the physical reality of the material world with which our waking consciousness interacts, it does not have any need or requirement to placate it.
