Three Egresses

Our meal subscription service sends us our meals weekly in standard-sized cardboard boxes. We always recycle those. But one day I figured if you line several of them up, end-to-end, you could create a structure that feels like a tunnel. So I did that, closed up one end, and placed it in the rabbit’s enclosure.

He immediately took to the “cardboard tunnel”. The first thing he did, after familiarizing himself with the tunnel, was to create two more egresses by chewing holes on the cardboard boxes. He prefers to have multiple exits. And since then he has been chewing more and more holes, to the point I worry about the tunnel’s structural integrity. I wonder if it’s because he wants a longer tunnel - I read that wild rabbits would dig tunnels as long as hundreds of meters long.

As the cardboards degrade, I’d swap in new boxes so he’d have something new to chew. But he’s been destroying boxes faster than I could replace them.

The great thing is that he spends all his energy on chewing holes in the cardboard boxes, he stopped chewing the furniture or carpet.

Our wee lad is a college student now

Little boo-boo graduated high school last week. I went to the graduation ceremony, which was quite long. I was most impressed by how sports-oriented the school was. My high school had a good track program that won city-wide championships year after year, but I don’t remember much of it being mentioned during my high school graduation. His school had one championship I think this year, but every single speaker, including the alumni speaker, representative from the school board, and administrator, focused on some sports even or other.

He’s going to Scotland for university. I’m not sure how that will work since he has one fewer year of schooling than this cohort - I understood that the first year of US colleges is equivalent to the last year of matriculation - but if he got accepted then he must be good enough. It’s a smart move to live outside the country for the next 3 years. Since I did the same, I fully support the decision.

It made picking his graduation present very easy - I gave him a book of Scottish slangs - I wish I had a book of American slangs when I came here.

A break before a break

I’m at La Professeure’s parents’ now, making our usual summer visit. We’re staying for 4 days and only have a list of chores to help do around the house, which will take I’m guessing half a day at most. So we’re just relaxing the rest of the time. I’m planning to watch the UCL final on Saturday when they are at church, but other than that, no plans.

Our house’s basement is finished and thus not used for storage, so there are many smaller storage areas all around the house to compensate for the lack of a central storage space. We’ve found homes for various items around the house, but we use a Google doc to keep track of them since there are so many storage places.

This weekend may be a good time to write an AI agent to look up storage places for items so we can just ask our home automation system where these things are and safe us a trip to open that Google doc.
