Hello from a coffee spot in the shopping district close to my home. The weather is beautiful and it’s going to be a gorgeous Saturday evening - I imagine there will be lots of dates happening in this area later on tonight. It’s crazy crowded right now. Kinda wish I had plans for tonight. Alas, I will get Martini from daycare and we’ll go on a lovely walk in the park and then head home for an early night in.

I have been assigned a documentary watch. Cindy, a friend and former co-worker from a lifetime ago, told me during a phone conversation today that I need to watch the Martha Stewart documentary. Alas, there are TWO documentaries out now?? Did you know this?

I guess I’ll watch the one on Max, The Many Lives of Martha Stewart, because I don’t have Netflix right now. I think she was probably talking about the Netflix version because it’s newer by a couple of months, but can they be that different?

My friend Cindy is working on a freelance project with a company out of Pakistan and wanted to ask me for my opinions on the going rates for consulting. She’s super busy, so I told her that I’d happily take some of that work off her plate if there’s an opportunity. I imagine a LOT of retailers are going to want to explore the capabilities of Pakistani factories during this INSANE tariff situation. I would love to have some of that overflow work. I’ve got the time and this company is about to be SUPER BUSY with people trying to move their production further out of China.

Anyway, Cindy wanted to talk on the phone today and we were reminiscing about the old days and the last economic downturn (circa 2008-2010) and how we were both working for the same c*nt who ended up screwing with both of our livelihoods. That’s when she suggested watching the Martha doc. What a bad bitch Martha is!

Speaking of bad bitches, brunch today was interesting. It was another small one - there were only four of us - but that was the perfect size for this small and trendy restaurant. It was an Asian-fusion place - one of those places that’s kinda hard to get reservations, so they take your credit card number in case you bail. They WILL charge you $25/head if you don’t show!

But we had a pretty good time, though some of it was very, very frantic conversation about layoffs and job hunting, etc. This shit is REAL, folks. Layoffs happening right and left at this point. NOBODY is safe thanks to Trump’s First 100 Days(TM).

Diane (whom I believe actually voted for Trump) was noticeably quiet today. She didn’t really speak up until the very end, and what she said BLEW my mind.

SHE WAS LAID OFF YESTERDAY!!

Oof.

She was the BIG BOSSLADY of a huge program within one of the largest financial institutions in the country! This is a massive blow. I just said that the shit is real, right? Well, it’s REALLY REAL!

I realized that she was quiet because she didn’t know if she wanted to say anything or not, but all we kept talking about was what a scary place and time we’re in right now. So that was her contribution. Ugh. I don’t love her politics, but I certainly don’t wish a layoff on her (though if she truly did vote for Trump, she voted herself right out of a job, directly or indirectly).

OK. I’m going to head out now. Time to pick up the chiweenie and call it a day…

XO,
GS
