July 5 - Anyone There? in These Foolish Things

So the 4th of July came and went with little fanfare and much dog trauma. My dog wound up under the bed all night with her thundershirt still wrapped around her tiny body and mom and dad’s dog ended up in their closet. Both dogs seemed to be completely unfazed this morning, but it felt a little touch and go there for a while as it sometimes seemed like the fireworks were aimed directly at the house.

But we all persevered.

I honestly don’t think anyone is working today. I mean, my office is open, but literally there’s NOTHING going on - not even chatter. My boss (Inbox Nazi) officially took the day off, but everyone else is silent. I’m working on catching up with a few things and honestly kind of goofing off and hanging with mom and dad every so often (checking on them here and there and making sure they are eating and feeling good).

The Cool Cat Company let someone go last week. There are now only seven people working for this company, including myself. We are tiny but somewhat mighty? The person who was let go was not doing her job. She was also a bitch and very hard to work with so I get it. I still haven’t had the BIG talk about my next leadership role with the CEO, though she and I did have a good meeting last week. It just happened to be about something else.

Have I mentioned how much I loooovvvveee my CEO? Probably not since I don’t work directly with her - but because my direct boss is such a weirdo, the CEO and I have had more direct communication lately.

So - I knew I was going to be having a big-ish meeting with her earlier in the week, I’d found the cutest top at a boutique store. Now, I loved this top for me because I knew it would look nice on me, but I made the final decision on the purchase because I just had this feeling that she’d really love it and it would look fantastic in a Zoom meeting. Great style - lots of neckline and shoulder detail and a very nice print that was distinctive but not distracting. Just perfect.

And guess what? Not only was my top the first thing she mentioned when we started our meeting, but she’d clearly thought about it for hours after our meeting because she sent me a TEXT later with thoughts on styling it several different ways - haaha! My plan worked 100% and even better than I’d expected! We connect on so many levels.

This is why I feel like she wants me to move up into a more leadership role. I mean, not just my fashion eye (haha!), but it doesn’t hurt! She likes me and she likes my work and it’s a WILD feeling to think that someone actually likes what I’m doing.

I’m just rolling with it!

So this is a good end to the 4th of July week. Quiet, mom and dad are doing well today, and I’m prepping for the week ahead.

No real plans for the weekend. It’s so funny that I’m hanging here in this sort of touristy town and not doing anything except catching up on Netflix (America’s Sweethearts and Bridgerton, Season 3), reading a couple of books from my brother’s library (notably, Thank You for Arguing), and thinking about starting a Tik Tok or some other blog-like informational website about thrifting, vintage and second-hand shopping (just in the infancy stages, but a few glimmers/ideas here and there).

So I better get going for now. I want to get a few more emails and reports done before the weekend meal planning can begin - ha! I spend all of my time feeding my folks and then cleaning up after them. Ah, the elder life.

Hope you had a fantastic 4th!!
