Name: Matt (name changed)
Age: 53
Status: Divorced twice. First marriage = 17 years, Second = around 3? Single for 4ish years.
Job: Directs three hospice care facilities
Lives: In a neighboring city. About an hour drive from my downtown place, but ½ hour from my office. He met me at a restaurant very close to my office.
Length of Date: 2.5 hours on Thursday evening.
He Looked: Well, well. No surprise he was handsome. Tall (6’3”), very clean cut - nice head of graying hair, dressed professionally in a fine, cotton dress shirt, tan pants, tassel loafers, Rolex (sorry, I notice these details). But the thing that got me was his smile – PERFECT white teeth and the warmest yet devilish smile. Definitely highly attractive to me.
I Looked: Like I said in my last entry, I was not polished. I went to the restroom before I left the office and touched up my hair and makeup, but I was wearing jeans and a decent knit shirt with really pretty beading and embellishment at the (low-cut) neckline, and my killer platinum metallic pumps. I probably looked tired after a long fire drill of a day.
We Did: Met on the patio of a restaurant close to my office. I don’t like very many venues in the vicinity of my work, but this one is always okay. It’s the easiest to get to, service is fine, and the atmosphere on the huge wooden deck is the nicest in this town. It’s surrounded by trees and fountains and with the weather changing it’s not too hot to sit outside. We had cocktails and were about to order some appetizers when I started being eaten alive by mosquitos, so we moved inside to the bar area. Ate a few nibbles, had one more drink and then he called it a night by asking for the check. I would have had even one more drink and talked some more, but I guess he was ready to do. I’m glad I didn’t have another – two glasses of wine was enough. And it was time to go.
First Impression: Not only handsome, but witty, funny, and extremely charming! I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised based on the overly persistent texts. He talked and talked. I think it was nerves, but he told really great stories. He’s not as traveled as I am, but his stories of Paris and Puerto Rico are super entertaining. He wasn’t like he was in his texts. In person he was just the right amount of chivalrous (gush), hilarious, and humble. I loooooved all of that, yes indeed.
High Point: Being pleasantly surprised – especially with his sparkling personality. He’s a charmer, that Matt. He’s interesting and very interested. I ate his stories up. I wanted to hear more, and I wanted him to know more about me.
Low Point: The Kiss.
He Stipulated: If you drive me back to my car, you have to kiss me.
I Stipulated: Um…
How It Ended: He closed our meeting rather abruptly after two drinks and some appetizers, and I’m glad he did because three drinks would have been too many. On a good note, I was bummed that it was over because I wanted to know more and I wanted him to know more about me, but it was a good time to call it a night. I had parked on the far back side of the restaurant and he’d parked all the way on the other side of the building, so he walked me to my car and I offered to drive him around to his car. That’s when he told me that I was going to have to kiss him. I thought, yeah, right. So I drove around to the other side where his car was, we talked about seeing each other again, and then sure enough, he leaned right in and kissed me. It wasn’t just a sweet little kiss, there was a lot of tongue and me pulling back and him trying again. Not really a dealbreaker, but I just don’t know what to think about it. It was too much. I drove home a little dazed by it all.
Chances Are: I have agreed to Tuesday evening, so I guess 99.9% unless something crazy happens.
I’m on the fence about this guy and I’d like to see what might be. There are so many great qualities about him that I don’t think a pushy series of texts and kisses are really that big of a red flag. I’m considering them yellow, though. I want to make sure that I’m not being overly sensitive.
So there you go. One RAD down!
Love,
GS
