Get a hint
La Prof went upstate for the funeral of her maid of honor’s mom. I stayed behind because of the rabbit, and because I was scheduled to host a recital.
The recital concert was surprisingly well attended, given how cold and snowy it was, and how close to the holidays it was. I noticed that a new crop of people are showing up and forming relationships with each other, so the group is still catering to a need, and is fulfilling its mission.
In the last concert before that though, a veena player took 23 minutes to perform this piece they claimed would be 10 minutes long when they signed up. It messes up the timing. So this time I wrote to ask that the time estimate has to be right. They wrote back, the night before the concert, to say they needed at least 10-15 minutes for his performances, and that we should keep that in mind the next time we schedule him to perform. He was really nice, but he doesn’t seem to grasp what we do - that we are providing him a service by giving him a venue to perform. (He had also asked for us to arrange parking and find a rug for him, oh, and asked how much he would get paid.) I guess he is used to performing with more professional performance organisations? Most people, after they’ve performed here once, understood what we’re about. We had someone who wouldn’t donate because “[she] was a performer.” But once they see how we operate, they would immediately “got” it. But I guess some don’t.
I doubt we’d see him again, and that’s not a bad thing.

Realist
New Hip Company announced another round of layoffs. It didn’t touch my team but it’s making me even less enthusiastic about working here.
New Hip Company sends these surveys to its employees and for the first time I responded tot the question “do you believe [New Hip Company] is executing its mission effectively” with no. Because, at this point it is very clear that the executives are chasing after Wall street and wall street is chasing after the latest tech trend.
It is disappointing but I suppose that is the way of the world.

Left behind, again
This week, La Prof went to a conference at DC, so I’m left alone with the rabbit again. He’s not pleased since I am more stingy than she is about treats.
For his health, the rescue group recommends we give no more than three rabbit treats a day. And we would break the treats up into halves, so each day he would get up to 3 halves. La Professeure had taken the habit of giving him two halves at a time, so he would take half a treat, and then expect another one. But me, I gave him half a treat and that would be done. When he realizes the other treat is not forthcoming, he would hop away in a hissy fit, and flick me off.
Before La professeure came back, he had taken to destroying the couch. I would distract him by giving him a chew toy (a bamboo stick, or compressed hay), which would work for a few minutes, until he regains his interest and goes after the couch again. After a few rounds I realized he was actually holding the couch hostage in exchange for chew toys.
Like a mob boss.

Yeah, I suppose a lot of things that were once new and hip become old and annoying. Tough when that thing is your job that you need to make a living, though.
Bahahaha, I want your rabbit to be in charge of everything. Excellent tactics.
