I have twenty minutes left of work and now is when I finally feel I can breathe. Today has been a busy day and rather wonderful. Often I find that the patrons/clients/members of Nest are rather elitist and pretentious and uptight and require special attention to almost anything. I run the front desk, the security, and it’s my job to make sure the policy is managed and no one gets in that shouldn’t. Security is a thing for a reason. Badges are given to those that pay for the space, that work in the space, and it blows my mind that there are people in this world that think they are the EXCEPTION rather than the RULE.
No, you can not just go in and see some friends.
No, just because you know the CEO and throw some random company name at me you can not just enter the building without having a meeting.
No, you can not just stroll around the facility.
WHO ARE YOU?!
But, overall, the members here are awesome. They remember my name, and I remember theirs, and they always say hello and ask me how I’m doing and I ask about their lives and business. I really enjoy all the little projects I get to do, how close I am with some of the team members, and how everyday is a different and rather fast moving day. Sure, being a receptionist isn’t the most exciting thing in the world, but I’m starting to believe that this is exactly where I’m supposed to be.
I’m happy. For now, for today, for this moment. Things are starting to become more clear.
