Positive and negative things to write today about my moms. I’ll start with the positive.
My wedding date is October 25th, barely two months from now. I know a typical wedding takes a lot more planning and time than we are giving this one. It’s going to be a small wedding, but still have a lot of the traditions, which means a lot of planning must be done quickly. Since we’re getting married on my mom’s property in Florida, they have been doing a lot of the work for us.
I’m extremely grateful for that. My sisters are both big planners, but I am not. I’m one of those people that just hopes things work out. In most cases, that means letting other people plan things for me. It often works. Cheryl told me yesterday that they found a minister who is perfectly happy to perform our ceremony in the nude. That made me happy since, even though it was what I wanted, I have made no attempt to arrange it.
If my wedding goes flawlessly, I won’t be able to take any of the credit for that. And I’m so happy to have people in my life that help.
At least I don’t need to worry about shopping for a dress.
Now the negative, which admittedly is more like spoiled-brat complaining than something really negative. We have lived rent-free in this house that my moms own for a couple years now. The agreement was that we would take care of the maintenance and pay for the property taxes.
But now my moms are saying that since we are getting older and have families and job they think we ought to be paying a little bit in rent. They want $1000 a month from us, which would mean $500 from Jayson and me. Still a great deal, I’d never be able to rent a place like this for so little money (which my mom clearly emphasized by saying she could rent it to someone else for $3000 a month), but I’m still pissed that suddenly I have to pay for something I was getting for free.
