My Guitar Solo Tuesday, October 26, 2004
I was lying in bed this evening feeling sorry for myself when I decided I needed to get my feelings out. So I mustered up all my strength and rolled myself off my bed. I knew what I needed. I needed a good 'ol country song. So I reached over and grabbed my dusty guitar and went back to my bed and sat down Indian style. With my guitar in my lap I started to feel better. I slowly tapped my hand against the wood making a hollow echo sound come from the guitar. The beat was slow, and the occasional scratch against the nylon strings made it sound like something. It gave it the sound of the beginning of a song. Not one note played yet, and all ready the sound of music was filling my senses.
I looked the part, for sure. My long straight hair laying flat against the sides of my head gave me the Averill look, except I wasn't blonde. My left hand held the neck of the guitar, and my right hand tapped an echoing beat that gave you the feeling that at any moment acoustical bliss would fill my bedroom. I cocked my head slightly then looked down at the strings of the ol’ guitar and my left hand fingers began to stretch and twist. With my left thumb pressing down on the top string, third fret, and my left middle finger pressing down the bottom string third fret, my right hand tapped three more echoes as I simultaneously whispered, “one, two, three,” and strummed the one chord I knew. Sure, it was the “lazy G” chord, but nonetheless it was a chord. Strummm…. strummmm…. short strum long strummmm…
After my big “G Chord” debut I was ready for more and by the yawn that came from my cat I knew she wanted something new too. The “G chord” just wasn’t enough. So twisting my newly dented fingers I attempted to hold down three more strings that I just randomly picked on frets that looked as though they could possibly result in a chord. With the ends of my fingers beginning to turn red, my right hand knew that it had to strum quickly or my left hand was going to lose it. I strummed and the result was rather poor. I swore I saw my cat roll her eyes so I quickly played an encore of my “g chord.”
After a couple more tries I did in fact find another “good” sounding chord. It was in no way related to the “G chord” but that was irrelevant. The chord was a minor chord and that was exactly what I needed. I strummed that chord a couple dozen times, but when my cat put her paws over her ears I figured I had used that chord enough. I shook my left hand a bit and placed my left thumb on the top string right between the first and second fret. I plucked the top string and rocked my thumb back and forth between the frets and all of a sudden I was playing the only song I knew. My version of the Jaws Theme. As soon as the sound faded I knew my night of playing the guitar was over. I leaned the guitar against the wall so it to do the job my guitar does best. (Hides my computer wires so that no one can see them)
I then walked back to my bed and sat down next to my cat. She looked up at me and I looked down to her. I then got under the covers and she walked up and down my body a couple of times, pawed me a couple of times, and then laid across my legs. I raised my arms and placed my hands under my head and sighed. The weight of my cat reminded me that she was still there and at that exact moment I decided that I was content with life. My eyelids got a bit heavy, and the next thing I didn’t notice was that I was asleep.

the G chord is a good chord. my personal favorite. maybe i would have liked your solo? however, a little variation of the chords is a good thing. kinda keeps it from getting a little too bland, ya know? ;) funny. [geetar_911] 12/22/2004 2:50:17 AM
Your quote "With my guitar in my lap I started to feel better". Man, don't you just! As soon as I pick up an instrument I instantly feel much better :) I don't know what it is, but playing lifts you! [Wolfpak]
