Smoldering in Lyrics

Of the hundreds of lyrics I've written in the past 12 years, this is my favorite. It has haunted me since I wrote it, and will continue to until I take the song that I hear in my head and bring it to reality. I can hear every note, every riff, every drum beat. If I do nothing else before I die, I must flesh this out.

Covered in oil
And kerosene
I'm drowning while I dream

Of a fuse
That couldn't blow quickly enough
There wasn't enough wick
It all got burned up

Somewhere things went wrong
What once burned strong
Turned into a dud

The fiery spirit
Soaring ever higher
It fell to the sea with a thud

Now I'm smoldering
Shouldering the burden
Of my loneliness

Covered in silence
And smoky screens
Wondering what it means

To lose
A red-hot love
That left my soul scorched
Body covered in blood
But whose?

Somewhere things went wrong
What once burned strong
Turned into a dud

The fiery spirit
Soaring ever higher
It fell to the sea with a thud

Now I'm smoldering
Shouldering the burden
Of my loneliness
