We got home from the hospital on Wednesday, and Lorelei had an appointment yesterday with a pediatrician. Everything looks god, she's perfectly healthy. She has lost 7% of her birth weight, which freaks me out, but they told me anything above 10% is fine. I've been having to wake her up to nurse her. She sleeps a lot, as newborns are apt to do. It's also surprisingly easy to get her to sleep. Hopefully this is part of her personality. :P

Nursing is going really well. Way better than the first time. Lorelei's latch has been great from the beginning and she didn't need much help. Nipple soreness has been minimal. I'm really glad it's going well, I was nervous about it. The first time I nursed a newborn my nipples were bruised and bleeding and I cried whenever he latched on from the pain. :(

general physical recovery is going well. I don't feel like I gave birth less than a week ago at all. I am anxious to quit bleeding completely so that I can start workouts. I don't have a scale but I definitely have a lot of weight to lose.

She takes a pacifier sometimes, and I am going to try giving her a bottle next week after I have pumped a bit.

I've been in a lot of cramping pain, from my uterus contracting. It hurts SO badly. I don't remember it being this bad from last time. We forgot to pick up my prescription strength ibuprofen from the hospital, so I've just been taking normal ibuprofen. It works, kind of. The pain gets just as bad as labor did sometimes. I'm not bleeding excessively or anything though, so I know it's fine.

Cannon is having a hard time adjusting and he has been having epic tantrums of proportions I have never seen out of him before. He also seems more attached to Jacob lately. it kind of hurts my feelings, but I try not to let it get to me. I guess I know how Jacob has been feeling for the last two years now. heh. Cannon loves his sister and gives her kisses, but he also doesn't know how to play gently with her yet and he threw toys at her today. :/ he also hit her a couple of times when he was angry. I am sure he will outgrow that.

She won't sleep in her pack and play for more than five minutes at a time. I tried to get her to sleep in it for 30 minutes last night and gave up. She has been sleeping on my chest. This can't last, so I know I will need to figure something else out. Cannon still isn't going to bed until 4am too. I am a zombie, pretty much. Jacob is too. he has been working really hard to finish his summer classes and taking care of our kids. he is my hero.

He is such an amazing dad, all of this just makes me fall in love with him all the more and I did not think that was possible.

I am very glad that I am not pregnant anymore. I am in much better moods, despite not getting sleep.

Prescription strength ibuprofen is usually just 800mg. You can take four of the OTC stuff and achieve the same effect. Just try not to take it on an empty stomach.

Joe had an adjustment period, too. Cannon will change his tune soon. The first couple of weeks are the hardest.

I'm so glad to hear you're having an easier time nursing Lorelei. Nursing can be SO danged hard.

Don't try to push yourself into working out too soon, you need time to recuperate not just from giving birth, but from being pregnant too. :)

Glad it seems to be going well! Im sure Cannon will adjust. Sounds similar to the things my friends described upon bringing baby Number two home.
