From worst to better in 2014

8:43pm

I like that the world sends me things when I need them the most. Things that make me smile even if they're simple and honest.

It was a really rough morning. Apparently my equipment at work really hates Mondays. Especially the first Monday of the new season!

First thing in the morning we had to print some paperwork to send out for a guy and the printer stopped working. We've been having trouble with it since we upgraded windows. It's been a serious pain, but I know the fix so I went straight to the other computer to switch some things around. Problem was that this time the computer wouldn't allow me to make any changes and/or share it over the network. This went on for a while. Contacted the printer company and they couldn't help me because it was a "system error". Contacted my own tech support and they couldn't help because it's not a supported device. He tried to give me some tips but nothing seemed to work. This went on for a long while. Back and forth. Nothing working. ugh.

I was stressing to the max. More than I have in a long time. I mean that's our entire business; we don't work without printing abilities. So I was freaking out about not knowing how to fix it.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, the stupid thing just started working. It must have been several hours after the start of the day. I'd already taken a break and told Mom I was going to go cry in the bathroom. heh.

I came back after a dozen or so grapes and quiet time with the toaster oven manual....only to realize the receipt printer is printing gibberish and I can't get it to stop. sigh

I didn't want to waste a bunch of paper and just let it print. I can't figure out how to get it to stop though. I can't just cancel the print job because it's not showing up on any computer. Tried turning on/off, unplugging, removing and adding device, etc, etc.

That'll be a project for another day. I just couldn't handle any more of it. Way too much for the first day back at work.

It all quieted down after that. We had a client come in and I busied myself unpacking boxes and organizing.

I was standing in the back messing with name-tags when I heard the door open and Mom's expression lit as she smiled and said hi to someone. I heard the voice, immediately knew who it was, put a smile on and came around the screen to find the country kid standing there. In hindsight I should have hung out in the front, but I moved behind the shelter of my desk instead. He just wanted to thank us for the tamales, but saw the other client and started walking out the door. I interrupted his exit with questions about whether he liked them or not. Then we started talking food and how we make them. I actually saw him turn to leave a couple times but my brain kept sending words to stop him. Couldn't really help it. ;)

He eventually went next door to the coffee shop. He must have had a lot of work to do because he was there for a while. I was standing outside later in the afternoon, holding the door open talking to Richard when I saw him out of the corner of my eye looking over through the window. Good timing as I was giggling away at something we were joking about. hah.

This isn't the first time he's shown up on my "bad" days. Like somehow he knows. Or the world sends him because it knows I'll get all weird about it again. I don't know what it is, but I'm ok with it either way. It turns the day from being a giant complaint to something else to think about.

And hey, at least I know I didn't scare him away the other day talking about all my bad habits. ha. I'm kind of curious to see how many times he's going to come by the office this year. I won't complain if it's quite a few. I've gotta figure out how to make this an outside-of-work thing. Like 'friends', or whatever it is people do these days. I just can't seem to make the transition.

So that was day one. I like being at work and having things to do, but I'm mostly dreading the whole thing. Although there's no stopping it now. Just have to take it day-by-day and move through the motions. There's no other option at this point. I know I'll survive and the sooner we do this, the sooner it's all over again.

Off we go...
