The story in the link above is disturbing on its own. I first noticed it when the Amber Alert was posted and I recognized the alleged killer immediately. I use "alleged" as it's expected, but I have no doubts based on the details that it was him.

Anyway, the "alleged" killer.

I have been reading the story as it has been developing and seeing the picture of his estranged (now dead) wife makes me queasy. I never met her and I'm sad. She was a beauty school teacher and she was shot point blank in the head (hollow-point bullets, I guess) in front of her two and five year old daughters.

The story is really what makes me queasy. I briefly dated someone whose dad is affiliated with the Gypsy Jokers, but I didn't learn that fact until after I had broken things off. I know he was psycho and the guy he lived with pulled a gun on me. Supposedly just as a joke to mess with me, but I didn't laugh. I told him it wasn't funny at all.

I was sexually harassed (physically) by a Gypsy Joker in a night club at the coast a few years back.

My experiences are mild, but I'm attempting to express something.

The kind of person and the kind of crowd he is from deems this kind of behavior and these kind of deeds acceptable. Here was this beautiful young mother getting her not even elementary school-aged daughters ready for a day at the pumpkin patch and a restraining order never did any good. Now she is dead and her family is traumatized for life, particularly her daughters.

The suspect had two other restraining orders against him by other women. He had already served time for violent crimes in the past. Now, because our justice system is inadequate, there is a picture of a ghost--a once beautiful woman trying to get out of a dangerous situation.

I have no sympathy for the suspect. I think the Gypsy Jokers are full of horrible people.

And what gets me is they pride themselves on being 1%ers (bigoted and misogynistic gangsters). Most people picture a black, Hispanic or Asian looking person when hearing a term like "gang member," but I know better. I fucking know better. The GJ have been around for much much longer, but finding them in large numbers within city limits, while not unheard of, isn't so common (at least near Portland). They do prefer backroads and rural areas. Really, I think they're probably one of the more dangerous gangs near the Portland area.

And this woman. This ghost in her superman shirt is smiling; it's a much different image I imagine before the killer pulled the trigger. The probable tears, the pleading and the terrifying realization that it was the moment she knew was coming following all of the abuse, death threats and stalking. She didn't stand a chance.

I have met her killer. I actually had met him, fortunately not many times, and she is a ghost in a picture--a ghost I've never met.
