My name is Sarah. I'm 28 years old. I've been writing on another, less popular, diary site for about 10 years. It feels extremely strange to be writing anywhere else. But I think I might like it here. I particularly like the idea of 'books' and the potential to separate the jumble of thoughts into semi-coherent collections. In order to get a feel for how things work here however, I thought I'd begin with the obligatory introduction...
I hail from the UK, the North West to be exact. I'm in a long-term relationship with L. We've been together for 8 years and have 3 son's - Ben is 6, Isaac is 4 and Alexander is 11 months old. I also have a step-daughter who is 11 years old and now lives with us. Both L and I work. He is a security guard and I am a bingo caller. We're a pretty typical working class family.
In 2013, a few weeks before Alexander was born, I graduated from University with a First class honors degree in English. I went to university as a mature student simply to see how far I could take my love of English - language and literature. Now I am planning to take it further and do a post-graduate degree next year. I haven't 'used' my degree to make a career for myself yet. My boys are too young. Once they are all in full-time school however, I will be able to focus more on a career.
I'm an incredibly opinionated person, and I am thankful to my academic experience for giving me the skills to critically evaluate my opinions and challenge the ideas and opinions that I and others hold. I grew up in a Catholic home (arguably a lapsed Catholic home, considering only my grandmother took us to church!) and attended Catholic schools, but from an early age I was already questioning reality and religion. Becoming an atheist didn't happen over night and I will write more about my journey in another 'book', but currently I identify as an Atheist, a free-thinker and a humanist. I am also very interested in politics, philosophy and education/academia.
Another thing that I may write about quite often, again in a book of its own, is my health issues. I have PMDD, pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder, which is classified as a mental illness but is fundamentally biological and hormonal in origin. It is something that has quite a major effect on my day to day life and my relationships with other people. It is something that I hope to write about in more detail.
I guess that's all I have right now. Lets see if I can keep it up.
